We are a fast-growing team helping to drive the pace and scale of the energy transition and serving different customer segments with integrated analysis. Some of the services we provide include calculation and benchmarking of emissions across the full value chain of commodities, tracking and forecasting of carbon prices, and research and reporting on carbon markets.
The Carbon team is growing quickly as we help to drive the pace and scale of the energy transition and to serve different customer segments with integrated analysis. In the Carbon team we model greenhouse gas emissions across a number of different sectors and value chains, including oil and gas, metals and mined commodities. We support clients across the energy value chain to understand and respond to market and portfolio-related climate risks and opportunities by providing comprehensive, decision-useful carbon data and analytics.
Role Purpose This role will serve as part of Wood Mackenzie's Carbon Research team and is global in nature, rather than being focused on a specific region. This is an excellent opportunity to join a strong, growing, global team and make a contribution to decarbonisation and the energy transition at a global scale.
You will work together with global Carbon team members across various offices and with the broader research teams across Wood Mackenzie to support our data and analytics offerings. You will assist in the expansion and improvement of policy modelling and take a data-focussed approach to help build out carbon policy and market indices and metrics.
Main Responsibilities We are looking for an Analyst who will work on expanding our carbon policy coverage. The candidate is expected to:
Research existing policies, regulations and legislation, with global coverage on a country-by-country basis, on areas related to emissions (including emissions reporting, emissions limits and pledges, decarbonization incentives); compliance and voluntary carbon markets. Take a quantitative approach to organising, managing and interpreting data and information relevant to carbon policy and markets. Collaborate effectively with colleagues in both the Carbon policy and markets teams to support the management, maintenance and improvement of databases used in the teams' analysis. Support the creation, development and roll-out of policy metrics and indices based on both quantitative and qualitative criteria. Contribute to event-based insights to highlight interesting and relevant trends in carbon policy and markets, and support the development of original and insightful research that provides value to Wood Mackenzie's clients. A data-driven approach to policy, and the ability to develop quantitative tools to assess policies – including scorecards, indexes, and metrics. Relevant qualifications or prior experience in specific decarbonization-related policy areas would be an asset but is not essential. An analytical mindset and an eye for detail, which has been proven in your academic and work experience to date. Ability to comfortably collect and interpret data, and articulate your findings in a clear and insightful manner. Strong communication skills in written and verbal English are necessary. A collaborative mentality, comfortable working and interacting with internal stakeholders across different time zones and as part of a global team. An engaging nature, capable of connecting with co-workers and focusing on continuous improvement.
