IRB Barcelona is seeking a Technical Officer to join the Drug Screening Platform.

At the Drug Screening Platform (DSP), we support Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery projects. Our expert team provides tailored experimental support for a wide range of targets and technologies during the Candidate Discovery phase, from High-Throughput Screening (HTS) to Lead Optimisation.

At IRB Barcelona, we have set up a screening platform with state-of-the-art technology, which allows HTS and provides support for Hit to Lead and Lead Optimisation projects in an efficient and automated way.

Currently, we are expanding our facility in order to support the scientific community and move the science a step forward to the discovery of new medicines.

This position is under the framework of the INVESTIGO Programme for recruitment of young job seekers to carry out research and innovation – Funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.


DUTIES:

Assay development (Cellular and biochemical assays)
High Throughput Screening (Cellular and biochemical assays) execution in 384 format and support to H2l and LO activities.
Use of automated screening platforms at user level.
Support compound management activities.
Perform cell culture activities.


CRITERIA INVESTIGO PROGRAMME:

Required conditions for candidates to meet, as this position belongs to the INVESTIGO Programme:

Before the starting of the labour relationship with the institute, the candidate must be registered as a job seeker in the "Servei Públic d'Ocupació de Catalunya" and has to have be unemployed.
Not having previous labour relations with the IRB Barcelona within a period of 6 months, before the beginning of the contract.
Only applicable for candidates under 30 years old (before the start of the employment contract).
To hold at least a bachelor degree related to the field, which give the candidate the competencies and skills required for the position. Candidates holding a Msc. or a PhD. are also eligible and welcome to apply.

Degree on biomedical field
Experience working in Tissue Culture
Experience in biochemical and cell biology techniques ideally in 96/384 well formats

Ability to learn tasks quickly
Enthusiasm and self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.

Desirable:

Experience:
More than 3 years in drug discovery in pharma/biotech/academic research.
Experience with assay development, High Throughput Screening (HTS) and compound profiling for both, biochemical and cellular assays.
Familiar with a wide range of targets (enzymes, PPis, GPCRs etc) and technologies (Alpha, HTRF, FP, luminescence, etc).
Familiar with HTS sample processing, data generation, data interpretation and data reporting.
Familiar with HTS equipment (Echo650, multidrop, pipettors, readers, workstations such as CellExplorer etc)
Knowledge: on drug discovery processes, screening equipment and technologies and a wide range of protein targets, and on how to address the assay development for each one.



WORKING CONDITIONS & ENTITLEMENTS:

Working conditions: Contract linked to the INVESTIGO Programme, to allocate young people in search of a job in the research field, under the framework project: "Pla de Recuperació, Transformació i Resiliència". Employed in compliance with Spanish legislation and regulations under a full-time contract. Employees receive the benefits of the Spanish Social Security system covering sickness, maternity/paternity leave and injuries at work.
Estimated annual gross salary: 24.875€. Salary might be negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
