YesOffer Description CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JOBLocation: ICRA – Catalan Water Research Institute Foundation, Girona (Spain)Number of positions available: 1Scheduled start: 01/09/2024Undefined Position.OFFER DESCRIPTIONICRA is seeking to incorporate a postdoctoral research advanced fellow position within the research line Next-generation technologies for water treatment and resource recovery, led by Prof. Jelena Radjenovic. The successful applicant is expected to conduct independent research on the development of graphene-enabled electrochemical water treatment systems, synthesis of nanostructured materials, and work closely with other postdoctoral research fellows and PhD students working on the project. The scholar will be exposed to a multidisciplinary research environment at ICRA, and potentially involve in other ongoing projects. Salary will depend on the previous experience of the candidate, as evaluated by the members of the reviewing committee.KEY DUTIES1.Synthesis of graphene-based anodes and their functionalization to tailor their performance. 2. Optimization of electrochemical systems at lab and pilot-scale. 3. Electrochemical characterization of the synthetized materials using cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and other techniques. 4. Surface characterization of the synthesized materials using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and other techniques. 5. Evaluation of the developed electrode materials for electrochemical water treatment and resource recovery. 6. Analysis of water samples for the presence of organic and inorganic contaminants. 7. Preparation of scientific publications and participation in international conferences. 8. Scientific leadership and application for research projects.Applicants must have a PhD on electrochemical water treatment and previous research experience in the field of synthesis and characterization of nanostructured electrodes, in particular three-dimensional graphene-based anodes, their functionalization, and application for the degradation of persistent contaminants such as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Furthermore, the candidate should have expertise in mass spectrometry applied for the analysis of organic contaminants at trace concentrations
