Daily Responsibilities
Verato is looking to hire a key member of our growing finance team to be involved in all aspects of our accounting and finance operations in Mexico. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional with a strong background in accounting and finance, and a deep understanding of Mexican processes and regulations, to take on a leadership role in financial operations, controls, financial reporting, and budgeting.
Job Summary
The Senior Accountant will be involved in all day-to-day accounting and reporting activities, including Payroll and Accounts Payable, General Ledger transactions, cash management, and monthly closings. This person will assist in budget preparation, rolling forecasts, and other key financial analyses. Additionally, as Verato embarks on a period of rapid and sustained growth, this person will also assist our team with ad-hoc accounting and financial projects related to U.S. operations.
Responsibilities
The Accounting and Finance Associate will be expected to do the following:
Play a key role as a liaison, interfacing between the external accounting firm and Verato's US Accounting and Finance Team.
Assist with the monthly financial close process; prepare and enter journal entries, reconcile balance sheet and general ledger accounts.
Process payroll, including accounting for vacation, bonuses, and benefits according to Mexican regulations.
Manage cost recognition and accounts payable.
Play a key role in cash management and other financial operations.
Play a key role in the annual financial audit, as well as any statutory audits and compliance activities.
Coordinate and assist third-party tax resources in the preparation of tax filings and returns, ensuring compliance with Mexican tax laws, as required.
Drive process improvement projects, including new technology implementation to streamline and simplify existing processes and reduce manual activities (Payroll, ERP system).
Assist the U.S. finance and accounting team with some ad-hoc projects, as required.
Requirements
The following experience and skills are required for this position:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
5 to 10 years of experience in bookkeeping, finance, accounting, or a related field requiring numerical proficiency and a high attention to detail.
Experience in processing payroll, including recording and calculating vacation, bonuses, and benefits in accordance with Mexican regulations.
Good understanding of accounting principles, including U.S. GAAP and IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
Advanced skills in Excel and familiarity with accounting software, including ERP systems such as Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, or NetSuite.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Commitment to excellence and high standards.
Self-starter; able to operate independently and juggle multiple workstreams and priorities.
The following experience and skills are a plus and will differentiate your application:
Experience or familiarity with Software as a Service (SaaS), technology, or subscription-based businesses is a plus.
Familiarity with Salesforce and expense management tools is a plus.
