As we continue to grow, we need an experienced and ambitious Cost Professional to join our European Project Delivery team as the Manager of Cost Control.

Based in our European Head office in Hersham, Surrey * you will lead Air Products' regional Cost Control Team who are based both in our offices in Hersham and our office in The Hague, Netherlands.

Reporting to Air Products, Director Project Controls EMEA you will be required to ensure successful execution of all (Sale of Gas) and third party (Sale of Equipment) businesses.

The Manager Of Cost Control Will Be Required Too

Ensuring competitiveness, successful project execution, productive internal and external interfaces, risk management, and talent management. Asset creation work involves developing, bidding, and implementing projects. Multi-faceted planning, decision-making, and communication accountabilities span the above factors.Provide guidance and development of resources, system tools and work processes required to support the project management organization in the delivery of cross function and cross regional engineering and construction projects.Develop, optimize and continually improve all aspects of project cost control to service a broad portfolio of projects ranging from highly standardized / small scale (assets values around $0.5MM - $3MM) through to complex and unique facilities with asset values in the order of $500MM and above.Provide guidance and direction to ensure the project cost control plans and reporting structure aligns with Air Products Standards but tailored to suit the project execution strategy and needs from both an internal and external aspect. Ensure that project assigned resources provide accurate and timely reporting guidance to the project and work within the project applicable procedures and process workflows.To fulfill the requirements of the position the incumbent must develop collaborative working relationships with team members, alongside strong business leadership with all internal functions. Developing client relationships when required to deliver a professional project controls capability to meet our customer's needs.

This Will Be Achieved By

Further developing an industry leading regional project cost control team capable of supporting internal /external customer projects including EPCs, both within the office and at construction sites.Ensure compliance with global work processes and cost control IT systems to provide reliable and consistent cost control and reporting to ensure that we can meet the project, regional/ global project portfolio and business requirements.Collaborate with the Product Line and Project Execution teams to develop and deliver competitive cost control strategies, project estimates and budgets reliable project cost forecasts, including financing and hedging support, aligned to the execution scope and strategy during the bid phase through award and execution, ensuring the growth of Air Products businesses whilst consistently delivering on project commitments. in terms of cost and schedule.Develop and maintain Project Structure including Intercompany Contracts for engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction and commissioning to ensure credible cost control and reporting throughout the project execution phase.Develop and maintain the capabilities of the regional team to ensure that we can support the business needs across the broad portfolio of offerings.Drive close collaboration with and support across the other regional and global teams to ensure effective resource sharing, lessons learned, standard methodologies and the development of appropriate work processes and procedures across the global execution teams.Provide strong Cost Control leadership to the regional Project Controls team and the Project Delivery Organization to ensure that Air Products' reputation as a world-class engineering Company is enhanced in the marketplace.

Your Profile;

Graduate level Engineer with significant project cost control experience.Sound knowledge, and proven skills and competencies in application of project cost control principles, methodologies and tools, supporting all phases of project execution, especially around Project Cost Control, Forecasting and Reporting, within a large project oriented EPC or Owner Organization.Must have a track record of delivering accurate cost information, reporting and guidance to senior management.Previous SAP and Ecosys PMIS experience strongly preferred, especially around SAP Project Systems module.Experience within an Oil & Gas, Chemical processing or related business and equivalent projects a further benefit.

Experience Leading a Team. Must have previous experience in supervising and leading a team in cost control in a related industry, with sound interpersonal and communication skills across all standard Engineering organizational levels and functions. Able to work directly with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Functional leads. Understand what their roles are and how they correlate to the project work and overall execution.

Global Project Cost Control Experience: Proven skills and experience of cost control of projects on global basis, including performing foreign currency analysis, assessing currency risk exposures, advising Treasury of currency requirements and changes, supporting projects performed by multiple engineering offices, and understanding intercompany project ramifications.

Understanding of a variety of project types, structures and contract terms. This includes sale of gas (SOG), third party sale of equipment (SOE), joint ventures, capital, and cost sharing type arrangements.

Flexibility. To periodically travel internationally to other regional project delivery offices as well as domestically to support project / organizational needs.

Determined, adaptable and resilient. Able to lead teams to achieve success under significant pressure, evolving requirements, and conflicting priorities.

Culturally astute. Experience and ability to understand and adapt leadership and management style to different cultures associated with multi-region project execution, and to therefore achieve success with a multi-cultural team.

Experience of Customer and external stakeholder regional cultures, and proven ability to achieve success with those cultures.

Relationship network. Established and proven internal relationships with key individuals in all teams in all regions, with the ability to build strong relationships to apply leverage to complete the project.

Internal strength/weakness/opportunity/threat awareness. Knowledge of the capabilities and weaknesses associated with all internal project contributors, by region and by individuals. Able to assign scope and responsibilities accordingly and understand how to respond to different conflicting voices during project execution.

Proven Leadership Skills. Track record of successfully leading a team to developing systems and work processes to meet complex project and contractual demands, including recruiting and developing individuals. A strong work ethic and team motivation skills with demonstrated commercial and technical competence.

Strengths you'll need: Commercial and technical acumen, detailed working knowledge of project cost controls tools and systems. Leadership skills in cost control, estimating, quantity surveying coupled with a working knowledge of project management, business development and finance.

Earlier this year, Air Products announced plans to relocate from the current Hersham offices in Surrey, UK to a new site. The current building doesn't align with our sustainability commitments, and it is not feasible to upgrade it to the same standard as modern buildings.

The new offices will be located at 1000 Hillswood Park, Chertsey KT16 0PS. The building is set in parkland space with an EPC rating of A and several sustainability credentials including solar panels, and air source heat pumps. The move is expected to take place in phases from September 2024 onwards.
