About The Role:


Reporting to the Head Spain & Portugal, take an opportunity to lead the local underwriting Casualty team, focus on GL and PI/GL Construction, and promote Corporate Solutions' brand in the market, actively participate in industry conferences, and work extensively with brokers and clients.


Your main responsibilities:

Leadership & management

  • Lead, coach & mentor the team of underwriters focused on the Spanish and Portuguese markets.
  • Grow the portfolio profitably and remain within target and appetite framework and guidelines
  • Represent all Casualty business underwritten locally to the Spanish Branch Management Committee
  • Actively develop a diverse underwriting talent base through recruitment, training, mentor and skill development.

Business development & growth strategy:

  • Lead, support and execute on Spanish strategic initiatives.
  • Enable and support customer and distribution initiatives, jointly with customer and distribution leaders
  • Perform annual business planning together with the local and regional teams.

Underwriting:

  • Strong underwriting proficiency within corporate business segment, including International Program experience.
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant brokers and customers in Spain and Portugal, generate a flow of relevant submissions and promote crossselling opportunities.
  • Identify value creation opportunities within our customer base and think creatively about new ways to look at risk such as partnering with our Risk Data Solutions and Innovative Risk Solutions

Must haves:

  • 7+ years of relevant underwriting and leadership experience, with a focus on Casualty, in the Spanish/Portuguese market, mainly in the underwriting of primary business, including international programs.
  • Broad network of brokers and clients in the Spain and Portugal, especially with the commercial and corporate sectors
  • Ability to assess risks, coverages, terms, and conditions of insurance placements in respect of internal guidelines.
  • Strong emphasis on profitability and ability to demonstrate good judgement on a portfolio level
  • Proficient in Spanish and English

Nice to haves:

  • Knowledge of Professional indemnity and other Casualty products
  • Proficient in Portuguese
