Make an impact and drive improvements

In this position you will be responsible for a well-established and committed team of researchers and technicians.

Their main activities are to run New Solution projects, to turn our unique technologies into successful products, and to support the existing assortment to drive sustainability, cost and quality improvements.


Reporting directly to our R&D Director, Marine, you will have the unique opportunity to cooperate with colleagues from all over the world, but especially with our sister department in Denmark.

You will be instrumental in ensuring the quality and added value of our products in this highly strategic Leadership Position.


Additionally, you will be part of the Marine R&D Management team where we secure knowledge sharing, engagement and continuous improvement across the entire Marine R&D community and the entire Hempel's Marine ecosystem.

What you can look forward to in this role


In this role you will manage the day-to-day activities of a skilled team of researchers and technicians with a strong diversity in terms of e.g., experience and gender.

You will also lead the team in charge of our Marine testing station in Vilanova i la Geltrú.

On top of securing that we drive our projects successfully through the various Hempel processes, such as the New Solution or the Formula Optimization processes, your responsibilities will also include:

  • Ensure all guidelines regarding Health & Safety and Environment, 6S and Continuous Improvement are in place and followed
  • Management of individuals in the department including setting up annual KPI's, performance appraisal and development plans
  • Select and manage ongoing relationships with suppliers and vendors
  • Ensure a crossfunctional alignment and crossdepartment collaboration
  • Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with the external scientific community
What does it take to become our new team member?

  • University degree in technical studies such as Engineering or Chemistry would be valuable
  • Relevant years of experience in an R&D laboratory, preferably as a project manager or team leader
  • Quality oriented
  • Problem
- solving skills

  • Leadership skills
  • Specific knowledge of antifouling coating technologies would be valuable but not required
  • Availability to communicate in English and, ideally, also in Spanish
  • Computer skills
