What You'll Be Doing:

The Director of Global Program Management (GPM) plays a key role in leading the strategic and operational planning alongside an Alexion Global Program Team (GPT). Teaming up with the Global Program Team Leader (GPTL), the GPM offers strategic direction and guidance by creating cohesive plans to execute the strategy effectively. The Director GPM brings expertise to determine the timing, costs, and resources needed for development programs, ensuring successful achievement of program milestones and objectives. Acting as the strategic partner and operational head for development and lifecycle management programs, the Director GPM focuses on enabling cross-functional teams to work efficiently, building positive team dynamics, and supporting Alexion's operational model.

Your Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading cross-functional GPTs with the GPTL to achieve key milestones and tasks, and sharing program details, risks, and mitigations with Leadership Teams
  • Coordinating and steering planning activities for the GPT, such as setting milestones, forecasting budgets, planning resources, scenario planning, and creating an integrated program plan based on cross-functional inputs and assumptions
  • Providing strategic guidance to challenge program team assumptions, driving scenario planning, conducting trade-off analysis, and integrating cross-functional planning into the overall integrated program plan
  • Establishing and managing program budget, resource planning, and investment assumptions for buy-ups/buy-downs in collaboration with finance to ensure transparent and accurate funding status
  • Facilitating team goal setting and tracking to ensure adherence to the plan and strategy, preparing for team evaluations at year-end
  • Overseeing all related GPT sub-teams, tracking integrated deliverables, and readying the GPT for governance interactions at program inflection points
  • Independently delivering top-notch operations and program management expertise to drive the GPT towards execution excellence, and providing leadership in project management and expertise in evaluating and integrating external assets into the Alexion pipeline
  • Representing the department's vision and mission within the Alexion organization, and mentoring junior staff

What You Need:

Given the intricate and cross-functional nature of development programs, the GPM should excel in these core competencies:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong influencing abilities, and interpersonal skills to lead and motivate teams in a matrix environment at all organizational levels without formal authority
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, adept at handling competing priorities and possessing high problem-solving capability and business acumen
  • Proven experience in planning and managing complex programs across different development phases, encompassing cross-functional deliverables in Research, Operations, CMC, Commercial, and Market Access
  • Expert grasp of end-to-end processes in drug development and product value assessment
  • Demonstrated capacity to offer effective program management leadership, setting program plans throughout a program's lifecycle from discovery to launch
  • Proficiency in budget and resource management, as well as prioritization frameworks
  • Skilled in utilizing SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, and proficient in program planning tools and systems like Microsoft Project, Planisware, resource management, decision analytics, and budgeting management
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree, with a preference for a higher-level degree, plus more than 10 years of industry experience, 8 of which should be in managing cross-functional teams
  • The role's responsibilities are typically carried out in an office setting. Employees should be capable, with or without accommodation, of using a computer; engaging in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; problem-solving; contributing to complex and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborating with others; maintaining availability during standard business hours

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA/M.S./M.A., or equivalent experience
  • Over 12 years of experience in one or more functional roles within pharmaceutical R&D drug development, biotechnology, or related industries
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) credentials or similar formal training
  • High proficiency in MS Office software including Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, PowerPoint, and MS Power BI
