Over the last few years our R&D team has been using 'next generation' technology platforms to increase understanding of disease mechanisms, which will help us deliver significant advances to patients.


As a Senior Project Leader you will be responsible for leading and defining the overall strategy, specifications of our Malaria vaccine's.

The senior project leader will also represent the project portfolio internally at all levels within GSK and externally with frequent travel to our Italy, Siena R&D facility.


Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible with mínimal supervision for planning the strategy for development of a vaccine from laboratory concept to human proof of principle in clinical trials. This includes, in collaboration with appropriate internal and external experts, in defining overall project strategy, target product profile, Go/No Go criteria, stage transitions and regulatory strategy.
  • Represent the project or project portfolio internally at all levels within the company and externally (e.g., funders and other key interactions); responsible for preparing and presenting reports on the progress of the project.
  • Provide Scientific Leadership to the Project Team. In collaboration with the Project Manager and team members, is responsible of the progress of the project and ensuring that timely information is available to allow rational resource allocation and monitoring within GVGH.
  • Responsible for the writing, review and approval of protocols that define the scientific/technical steps required to achieve the project objectives (e.g., most Master Protocols required for the project).
  • Prepares Intellectual Property and publication plan and authors or reviews patents, scientific documents, research papers and presentations ensuring that the intellectual property is protected and a high ethical standard for publication (authorship etc.) is maintained.
  • Responsible to ensure through literature searches, consultation with experts etc., that GVGH has the necessary scientific knowledge available to advance the project efficiently and competitively and to make this information available to GVGH staff through scientific leadership and mentorship.
  • Handling and/or coordinating studies with human biological samples using GVGH WS/GSK policies.
  • Undertake all the obligatory ongoing training programs required to meet GSK standards including Ethics, Business Practices, Health, Safety, and the Environment Policies.
  • Proactively promote safety in the workplace: stop the operation if it is unsafe or is out of compliance and report it immediately to management.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Chemistry.
  • Demonstrated experience in vaccine development, including malaria vaccine R&D.
  • 5+ years' experience in appropriate translational research with experience in leading a multidisciplinary team/projects.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • Excellent record in working as part of a matrix organization.
  • Detailed and up to date understanding of the specific background (e.g., Publications) specific to the project.
