Dentons is seeking to recruit a Lateral Conflicts Analyst reporting to the Lateral Conflicts Team Lead.

Role


To support the Lateral Conflicts Team Lead and the Global Lateral Team, in ensuring effective compliance controls and procedures are in place in relation to supporting the recruitment process, and on-boarding of lateral and firm growth hires, particularly those involving the avoidance of conflicts of interest, protection of confidential information and to ensure compliance with applicable legislative requirements and management of risk.

A Lateral Conflicts Analyst should be experienced in the following core risk and compliance processes:

  • Handling conflict of interest checks of varying levels of complexity and across a range sectors and practices
  • Matter management, including matter opening and assessing compliance with the Bar rules of different jurisdictions
  • Management of Information Barriers and Document Security Processes
  • Reviewing engagement letters, outside counsel terms and other engagement terms/contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting legal conflict of interest checks and matters specifically related to lateral hires
  • Conduction commercial conflict assessments and seeking to obtain commercial clearances across Dentons worldwide
  • Handling complexity protection of confidential information issues
  • Reviewing and adhering to Dentons' internal compliance policies and procedures.
  • Reviewing CDD, assisting with client care and identifying sanctions issues
  • Liaising with Partners, staff and other members of the global Risk team to facilitate the prompt resolution of commercial and legal conflict issues identified from conflict searches
  • Contributing to the department's 'know how' system
  • Assisting the Lateral Conflicts Team Lead and Global Head of Conflicts with compliance projects, where appropriate

Experience, Skills & Knowledge

Technical Skills

  • Prior experience analyzing and resolving conflicts of interest and managing confidential information issues
  • Excellent analytic skills: Able to quickly identify and meticulously analyze complex issues to provide practical solutions.
  • Relevant legal or professional qualification, e.g. Law degree, Legal Practice Course, International Compliance Association Diploma in Anti-Money Laundering or Compliance is desirable
  • Relevant experience in an international law firm, although other professional services or financial services firms will be considered.
  • Ability to comprehend and analyze a wide range of matters and the commercial concerns arising from the underlying advice provided by a global law firm.
  • Able to provide clear and unambiguous instructions or advice; persuasively communicating the Risk position by telephone, in writing and in person
  • Prior experience analyzing and resolving conflicts of interest specifically for lateral hires is desirable
  • An understanding of Elite and Intapp Open conflict checking system is desirable
  • Ability to critically review, update and amend firm policies and procedures in plain English.
  • Ability to develop a knowledge and understanding of the following regulations:
  • Data Protection Act 2018 and equivalents;
  • EU Market Abuse Directive;
  • Solicitors Code of Conduct, including, Solicitors' Accounts Chapters;
  • Parts of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 relevant to law firms

  • Can demonstrate initiative and the ability to be proactive, while also being able to follow instructions and provide support to the Lateral Conflicts Team Lead and Global Head of Conflicts
  • Able to analyse and recognise the need for improvement to systems and suggest options for improvement to the Lateral Conflicts Team Lead and Global Head of Conflicts
  • Fluency in an additional language both written and oral
