Job Description

Our unit encompasses diverse teams and squads that ensure our infrastructure and platform’s quality, availability, scalability, and security. The infrastructure serves as the backbone for our customers and empowers our product teams to deliver top-tier platform services.

THE ROLE:

The purpose of the Engineering Manager /BI Lead role is to manage, align and order the data/reporting / analytic requirements against the business priorities while coordinating the development of these requirements with the BI team and overseeing the implementation of solutions. Accountable for team delivery you will serve as a leader to improve productivity and predictability and nurture our culture of collaboration, communication, and coordination between and within teams.

Prior to taking on engineering leadership, you likely were a senior software engineer with a comprehensive understanding of complex systems that you were a vital part of developing & launching over the years.

Your experience has given you the perspective to help other engineers prioritise their tasks, shape their career decisions, and face tricky challenges. We are also expecting you to keep up to date with engineering best practices, making you better equipped when helping your employees decide what competencies they want to develop. 

We are product-oriented engineers with a growth mindset.

THE CHALLENGE:

  • Responsible for software technical delivery for the BI Team
  • Working collaboratively with product owner, other leaders and engineers to create the best product for our customers
  • Analyse the scope of Product Team initiatives and coordinate with other squads to estimate, map dependencies, plan sprints, resolve blockers and ensure timely release to market
  • Provide an agile working environment, organising and facilitating the team’s scrum events
  • Ensure the teams’ efficiency and high-quality work: enforce tech excellence, tech debt management and regular adjustment of processes and timelines in line with a continuous improvement philosophy
  • Coordinate release activities, including clear and detailed plans or checklists for testing and roll-out
  • Responsible for developing our people
  • Coach engineers to grow in a professional (improving skills, and problem-solving abilities) and personal way (by supporting and giving them frequent feedback)
  • Conduct regular check-ins and 1-1 (Spanish & English)
  • Learning and sharing experiences on new technologies and trends and how you can leverage them in current and future products.
  • Exhibiting passion and advocacy to drive change.
  • Understanding how our business works and how products add value to your customers. Show engineers how their work impacts the product (bigger picture)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven experience in the Data Space (specially in Big/Fast Data, Data in Cloud and Data Engineering, but also ETL,(no)SQL databases and/or Business Intelligence)

  • High understanding of the end-to-end cycle of data (from ingestion to extracting value, through processing and storage)

  • At least 4 years’ experience as a Technical Lead / Manager

  • Fluent in English, any other language (preferably Spanish) is an asset 

  • Experience in business requirements analysis and documentation

  • Experience in working with an Agile software methodology is a plus.

  • A knack for effective and clear communication in all circumstances

  • Strong technical leadership experience; an appreciation for engineering best practices and quality over quantity of work
