What you’ll do

The role purpose is to strengthen Vodafone’s corporate R&D group in the domain of Quantum Computing for the following aims:

to investigate telco application use cases that can benefit from quantum computing, relevant vendors and enabling technologies where quantum applications and related software can make a difference to Vodafone’s cost base and revenue opportunities to drive the engagement with Vodafone business domains and partners to identify and agree new collaboration opportunities, and to test, prototype, and evaluate new solutions, and benchmark them against existing classical alternatives to explore software application & solution design and technical workflows enabled by quantum algorithms, by quantum-related software techniques, tools and middleware to explore, shape and prototype hybrid classical / quantum cloud computing to participate in projects exploring the migration of networks and systems to quantum-safe status

The successful candidate will join a multi- disciplinary group and shall drive the collaboration with teams inside the company and with technology partners. The role requires practical hands-on expertise in quantum computing, including understanding and programming of various quantum algorithms, knowledge of quantum information theory, experience with commercial quantum computing systems, a sense for practical business development and engagement with stakeholders, and a desire to forge business relationships and collaboration opportunities with internal and external teams.

Who you are

Required technical expertise:

Advanced experience in programming quantum circuits using Qiskit. Good knowledge of most important quantum algorithms Understanding of quantum information theory Some experience in rapid prototyping and software engineering using cloud computing. Practical experience with at least one of machine learning and optimization Use of quantum algorithms in machine learning and in optimisation Understanding of data science and machine learning methods Experience in applying machine learning algorithms incl. deep learning (, PyTorch, scikit-learn) Experience with optimisation algorithms, software tools for optimisation like Gurobi, or QUBO/PUBO methods Understanding of Post Quantum Cryptography (PQC) and cryptography more generally Understanding of mobile networks (4G, 5G)
