What work will you perform? 

This position reports to the Executive Vice President – Contract Freight. The primary responsibility of this position is to set the strategic vision for the Capacity Development department, to develop customer specific pricing and logistics solutions and to work in conjunction with other Landstar departments. This position is responsible for the strategic development of capacity and pricing for contract freight for all of Landstar.

Essential Responsibilities:

Strong executive sales relationships with asset-based carriers. Set the strategic direction of the Capacity Development team. Constant development of executive carrier relationships in order to contract rates and capacity. Lead and develop marketing plans to support capacity initiatives. Oversight and development of the pricing of new and existing customer opportunities with the goal of growing revenue, load count, and margins as it relates to contract freight. Responsible for insight and knowledge of current market conditions Provide guidance to the operations team as it relates to capacity and be the final escalation point for all capacity issues and decisions as needed. Participate in customer meetings and reviews to discuss current levels of business and service while looking for opportunities to expand business relationships. Ensure contract carrier performance for compliance to rates and volume commitments are met. Contribute to the development of companywide initiatives and programs. Attend in person conferences and meetings with carriers on a regular basis. Host Capacity Meetings throughout the year with Carrier Partners Support additional company led initiatives as it relates to capacity. Travel is required.

Required Minimum Experience and Education:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience 10 years of experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Related Industry Experience Strong executive level relationships with asset based carriers. Strong communication and organizational ability PC/Internet literate Microsoft Office experience (Ex. Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint) Experience operating in TEAMS (program) Ability to adapt quickly to a fast pace, changing environment.
