POSITION: Lower School Physical Education Teacher
STARTING DATE: January 2026
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Lower School Physical Education teacher to join our dynamic specialist team. The ideal candidate will inspire our youngest learners to develop healthy habits, stay active, and build confidence through movement. This role includes co-teaching and collaborating closely with colleagues to design engaging units and lessons that promote skill development, teamwork, and personal growth. The position requires a creative approach to curriculum design, strong classroom and behavior management, and a commitment to fostering a positive, joyful, and inclusive learning environment where every child feels successful.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach Physical Education to students in grade 1-5
- Assist in the development of our Physical Education program in the Lower School
- Collaborate with other members of the specialist team and with other Lower School educators to ensure students are supported in their learning and social emotional growth at ASM
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Teacher Certification + minimum 3 years teaching experience, preferably in grades 1-5
- Specialist in teaching PE
- Ability and experience in teaching a broad base of physical education skills
- Experience in using Understanding by Design to develop curricular unit maps
- Experience using a standards-based approach and performance-based assessments
- Experience in using Responsive Classroom or other student-centered classroom community building programs
- Experience in using standards-based grading and assessment practices
- Experience in using technology as an instructional tool
- Experience / willingness to work closely with colleagues to create a dynamic learning environment
- Experience / willingness to work with ELL and students with diverse learning needs
- Experience in using student data to inform instructional practices
- A desire to have fun, build community and support childhood at ASM
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Working hours: 8:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
- Vacation and time off: Teacher work year
