Call for Postdoctoral Candidates – Beatriu de Pinós

Dr. David de Gonzalo Calvo (IRBLleida, Spain) is seeking an postdoctoral researcher to join a translational research program focused on molecular phenotyping and precision medicine in respiratory disease.

Project overview

This project will apply molecular phenotyping of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) to identify biomarkers of pathogenic processes and to uncover mechanisms and actionable therapeutic targets in the context of viral respiratory infections and related clinically relevant outcomes.

The successful candidate will contribute to a research program integrating clinical cohorts with advanced molecular and omics profiling, including:

• RNA extraction and purification from human biospecimens
• RT-qPCR for quantitative validation of candidate ncRNAs
• Transcriptomics (RNA-seq) and differential expression analyses
• Integration of molecular data with clinical variables (risk stratification, outcomes)
• Statistical and bioinformatic analysis of omics datasets to define clinically meaningful molecular signatures

Key research goals

• Identify ncRNA signatures associated with respiratory pathogens, clinical phenotypes and adverse events.
• Characterize host–pathogen molecular mechanisms underlying disease progression and host response.
• Reveal novel therapeutic targets with translational potential.
• Support the development of precision medicine tools to improve prognostic stratification and clinical decision-making.

This position is embedded within Dr. de Gonzalo Calvo's broader translational program aimed at converting molecular insights into improved patient management.

Candidate profile

Essential

• PhD in Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, Biology or related fields.
• Demonstrated experience in molecular biology and/or omics in a biomedical context.
• Strong scientific track record (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, conference communications).
• Ability to work independently, drive a project forward and collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Alignment with the eligibility criteria defined by the Beatriu de Pinós (BP 2025) call.

Highly desirable

• Experience with RNA-seq pipelines, multi-omics integration, or clinical/translational datasets.
• Skills in R/Python, statistical modelling and reproducible workflows.
