You will work hands-on with physical prototypes and collaborate closely with Industrial Design, Mobile, and Product to ensure the electronics fit seamlessly into the device.
This role requires a strong electronics background, a practical mindset, and the ability to work across disciplines to turn concepts into real, buildable products. Firmware knowledge is important, but the core focus of the role is electronic design and hardware integration.
This is a senior individual contributor role with high autonomy, playing a key part in shaping Voicemod's first generation of physical devices.
What You'll DoCore responsibilities
- Design electronic schematics and take them through PCB implementation and prototyping.
- Ensure electronic designs are manufacturable, robust, and suitable for production.
- Work hands-on with physical prototypes, performing bring-up, validation, and debugging.
- Collaborate closely with Industrial Design and Mechanical Design to ensure proper physical integration of electronics into the product.
- Select components and define electronic solutions aligned with product requirements and constraints.
- Support the transition from prototype to production, working with manufacturers and suppliers throughout the product lifecycle.
- Contribute basic firmware or low-level programming tasks related to electronics bring-up and validation (not PC-level software).
- Debug hardware issues using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and power supplies.
- Produce clear and practical technical documentation for electronics and prototypes.
- Regularly work on-site with the Device and Mobile teams in Barcelona (1–2 days per week), using our electronics and prototyping workspace.
- Participate in iterative prototyping, testing, and validation of physical devices.
- Based in Barcelona or willing to relocate, with availability to work on-site 1–2 days per week for hands-on hardware development.
- Solid experience (typically 4–6+ years) in electronic hardware development for physical products.
- Strong ability to work with electronic schematics and take designs through PCB prototyping and validation.
- Ability to read and understand electronic schematics.
- Practical experience working with physical hardware, prototypes, and laboratory equipment.
- Technical ownership of the electronic design and hardware integration of the product.
- Understanding of basic firmware or embedded programming at electronics level (C/C++), sufficient to support hardware bring-up and validation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with mechanical and industrial designers, sharing a common technical language.
- Experience working autonomously in small teams or product-focused environments.
- Experience working on consumer electronics, audio devices, gaming peripherals, or similar hardware products.
- Previous involvement in early-stage hardware product development or first-generation devices.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, supplier coordination, or production ramp-up.
- Familiarity with basic embedded firmware concepts (RTOS, MCU bring-up).
- Experience setting up or working in electronics labs or prototyping spaces.
- Experience with at least one MCU family (STM32, NXP LPC, ESP32, Nordic, Microchip, etc.).
- Experience with product certification processes (CE, FCC, or similar).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines for firmware.
- Understanding of firmware security or IP protection.
- Knowledge of electronic design or simulation tools (Altium, KiCad or any other).
- Experience in Bluetooth audio protocols (HFP, A2DP, LE3)
- Talent Acquisition Call – Get to know Voicemod and share your experience. (Up to 60 min)
- Technical Interview – A technical conversation with engineers from the Mobile team, focused on your embedded systems experience, technical decision-making, and previous projects. (Up to 90 min)
- Final Interview – A discussion with the Hiring Manager and the Director of Engineering to assess ways of working, cultural fit, critical thinking, and ownership of a highly strategic product. (Up to 60 min)
- A minimum B2 level in English is required. We assess communication skills during interviews.
- Video interviews: Cameras on, no virtual backgrounds. We use Googe Meets.
- Timezone: Most of our jobs require people to be based in a country within a ±2 hour range from Central European Time (CET/CEST).
- Work location transparency: Be upfront about where you'll work from — we value honesty
Studies show that many people—especially from underrepresented backgrounds—tend to apply only when they meet every requirement. At Voicemod, we value potential and learning capacity. If you match at least 75% of the requirements, we encourage you to apply—skills can be developed, and we'd love to hear from you.
