Join our South Europe Consulting team at GE Vernova as a Protection & Control Intern based in our Zamudio / Bilbao ES office (Bizkaia), where you will support engineering activities that contribute to the reliability and digitalization of electrical grids across the region. In this internship, you will collaborate with experienced engineers on protection studies, relay setting calculations, technical documentation, and real-time simulation (RTDS).
You will become part of a dynamic, international team working on meaningful grid projects, gaining hands-on exposure to modern protection and control technologies.Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support the development of protection coordination studies, relay setting calculations, and basic power system analysis.
  • Assist with real-time simulation activities using RTDS or similar platforms.
  • Help prepare technical documentation, engineering drawings, and test procedures. Contribute to internal deliverables, test reports, and project documentation.
  • Support testing activities with production technicians, including basic relay configuration and wiring checks.
  • Collaborate with on site service engineers.
  • Follow GE Vernova's EHS guidelines.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Student enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field), or a graduate who completed the degree within the last 12 months.
  • Basic knowledge of power system fundamentals (generation, transmission, distribution, protection basics).
  • High level of English; French is a plus.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • User-level proficiency in MS Office.
  • Full-time on-site presence required at GE Vernova's Zamudio / Bilbao (Pinoa) ES office.
  • Availability for immediate incorporation or within approximately one month.
  • If contracted in Spain:
    Non-national candidates are responsible to know the minimum documentation requirements to be able to be contracted in country: NIE- Social Security Affiliation Number in Spain (NAF) and Bank Account in Spain. They must be in possession of them at the time of start hiring. GE will not sponsor this requirement.
     

Desired Characteristics

  • Familiarity with electrical simulation tools (Matlab/Simulink, ETAP, PowerFactory).
  • Basic skills in Python for data analysis or automation.
  • Basic knowledge of VBA for Excel macros.
  • Motivation to learn and grow in protection and control engineering.
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, and proactive.
  • Interest in microprocessor-based protection relays, control systems, and communication software.
  • Willingness to support international projects and work with English-based technical documentation.
