As Senior Counsel Supply Chain / Construction, you will support the business by providing strategic and hands-on legal expertise across the full contract lifecycle for procurement and construction-related activities
Directly reporting to the Group General Counsel, the role is primarily focused on contract management and legal leadership in support of the Procurement function, particularly during negotiations and deal closure with construction providers for materials, equipment, and services across multiple jurisdictions and projects. Acting as a trusted business partner, you will ensure that supply chain contracts are legally sound, commercially balanced, compliant with applicable laws and internal policies, and aligned with the company's risk appetite and project objectives. Key Responsibilities:
Contract Management & Negotiation
- Lead the drafting, review, negotiation, approval, and finalization of a wide range of supply chain contracts, including EPC-related agreements, construction contracts, supply agreements, framework agreements, service contracts, and purchase orders.
- Act as the legal decision authority for procurement and construction contracts within assigned limits of authority.
- Support and guide the Procurement and Project teams during tendering, bid evaluation, and contract award phases across multiple projects and jurisdictions.
- Lead contract negotiations with construction providers, suppliers, and subcontractors, ensuring appropriate allocation of risks, liabilities, warranties, penalties, and performance guarantees.
- Ensure contracts adequately address key IPP-related risks such as delays, cost overruns, quality issues, force majeure, change management, and interface with EPC or project agreements.
Legal Advisory to Procurement & Projects
- Provide day-to-day legal advice to the Procurement function on contractual, commercial, and risk-related matters.
- Support deal structuring for procurement of materials, equipment, and construction services, including long-lead items and critical packages.
- Advise on contract interpretation, amendments, variations, claims, and dispute prevention during project execution.
- Ensure consistency between supply chain contracts and higher-level project, financing, or joint venture agreements.
Compliance, Risk & Governance
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations (including contract law, construction law, and where applicable international trade regulations).
- Ensure procurement contracts comply with internal policies, delegation of authority, and governance frameworks.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and contractual risks related to the supply chain.
- Support internal audits and provide legal input on procurement and contract management processes.
Claims & Dispute Support
- Actively manage minor contractual claims and disputes with suppliers and construction providers, including assessment of merits, negotiation of settlements, and support to the business in dispute resolution.
- Provide legal leadership on claims management strategies during project execution.
- Coordinate and support external legal counsel for complex or high-value disputes, arbitration, or litigation, including case preparation, strategy alignment, and cost control.
- Promote proactive dispute avoidance and pragmatic, business-oriented solutions.
Process & Knowledge Development
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of standard contract templates, clauses, and playbooks for procurement and construction.
- Support training and awareness initiatives for Procurement and Project teams on contractual and legal topics.
- Monitor legal and market developments relevant to construction and supply chain contracts in the energy sector.

Education & Qualifications
- Law degree (LLB, JD, or equivalent).
Experience
- 7+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably within an IPP, energy company, infrastructure developer, EPC contractor, or reputable international law firm.
- Demonstrated experience in a lead or senior legal role with decision-making authority.
- Proven track record in contract management and negotiation for construction, procurement, and supply chain contracts across multiple jurisdictions.
- Strong experience supporting Procurement or procurement functions in complex, project-based and international environments.
Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong knowledge of construction law and commercial contracts.
- Solid understanding of supply chain risks in large-scale infrastructure.
- Experience with international suppliers and cross-border contracts is an advantage.
- Ability to manage multiple contracts and priorities in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
Soft Skills & Competencies
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, with a pragmatic and business-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work closely with Procurement , Engineering, Project Management, and Finance teams.
- High level of autonomy, accountability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to balance legal risk management with commercial objectives.
