Tecnun-School of Engineering, belongs to the University of Navarra. The aim of the School is to contribute to the professional training, scientific and human development of future engineers. Since its creation in the spring of 1961, it has maintained a balance between teaching, research and service to society, making these activities complement each other.

It currently has two sites campus: the older site, located at the university campus in the Ibaeta district, is made up of the laboratory buildings, the teaching and representation building completed in 1989, and a multipurpose building erected in 1996. The other site is located in the Miramon Technology Park and includes classrooms and research laboratories in the areas of Electricity, Electronics and Communications.

Job Description

TECNUN, the Engineering School of the University of Navarra, through the Mechanical Engineering and Materials Department, seeks to fill a tenured professor position as part of its academic staff in the field of Mechanical Analysis and Design, to begin in September 2026.

As a member of the academic staff, the candidate will contribute to the University of Navarra's three core tasks: research, education and management. Thus, his/her role will consist primarily of basic and applied research (50%), lecturing (40%), and services and management (10%).

Profile

Required

Candidates will be expected to hold a relevant doctoral level research degree, and a distinguished academic record including international research, demonstrating appropriate markers of academic recognition. Specifically for this position is required:

A PhD in Mechanical Engineering in the field of analysis and design of machine components and mechanisms.
An international academic portfolio and skills to conduct high-quality academic research and teaching.
Candidates will be expected to show the capacity to publish excellent papers in highly indexed journals as well as the capacity to find research funding opportunities, write research project proposals, and lead and develop research projects.
Knowledge and interest in identity and core values of the University of Navarra.

Research

The Machines And Vehicles Research Group At Tecnun Is a Multidisciplinary Team With An Extensive Experience In Analysis And Design Of Machines And Mechanisms, Both By Experimental Methods And Analytical And Numerical Calculation, Including The Dynamics Aspects Like Vibration Transmission And Fatigue Tests. Some Of The Current Research Activities Are

Analysis and design of the components of transmission systems for off-road vehicles.
Study of fatigue and aging phenomena in mechanical components.
Static and dynamic characterization of machine components.
Calculation and optimization using numerical methods (FEM).
Noise and vibration transmission.
Design and construction of test benches.

Candidates will have the opportunity to develop his/her own research in a closed relationship with other members of the group, other faculties or research institutions at the university related to the above-mentioned areas.

Specifically, Candidate Should Be Able To

Initiate new lines of research and coordinate the progress of scientific research projects. He/she will also participate in ongoing research programs.
Acquire and manage national and international research funding.
Publish in top-ranked international journals.
Develop an international scientific network.
Supervise PhD students.

Requirements

Teaching

Supported by the existing academic staff, candidate should fulfil the following requirements:

Teach at both undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of machines and mechanisms: Theory of machines and mechanisms; Machine elements; Machines design and analysis.
To provide mentoring for both graduate and undergraduate students.
The candidate will teach in Spanish and English to both national and international students.
Duties include teaching annually 16 ECTS and assisting with program development.

What Is Offered

We offer a full-time academic position as a tenure track lecturer for a period of two years. Following a favourable internal and external evaluation, this period will be followed by permanent appointment (tenure) as Assistant/Associate/Full professor.
The planned start date is 1 September 2026 or as soon as possible after that date.
Candidate will do most of the work at San Sebastián Campus of the University of Navarra ), where all teaching and research activities related to engineering are carried out, but some of the lectures will be given in Madrid Campus ), where University of Navarra offers Master's degree programs.
