AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join a large-scale, multi-cloud transformation project.

The goal is to take ownership of an existing AWS environment currently managed by an external provider - ensuring knowledge transfer, documentation, and operational stability while improving infrastructure standards and automation.

The ideal candidate combines technical depth in AWS and networking with strong analytical and communication skills, capable of working autonomously in a fast-changing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead knowledge transfer sessions with the outgoing provider and create detailed documentation of systems and configurations.

  • Audit and document the existing AWS landscape, identifying dependencies, risks, and areas for improvement.

  • Ensure business continuity during the transition phase by proactively monitoring and managing infrastructure components.

  • Manage and optimize AWS services including EC2, S3, Route 53, Load Balancers, Lambda, and DynamoDB.

  • Support integration and routing between AWS, Azure, and Rackspace environments.

  • Collaborate with internal service managers, architects, and vendors to align with infrastructure best practices.

  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting when required - this role requires technical execution, not just oversight.

  • Contribute to automation and process standardization across environments.

Tech Environment

  • Cloud: AWS (core), Azure, Rackspace

  • Services: EC2, S3, Route 53, Load Balancing, Lambda, DynamoDB

  • Systems: Windows & Linux servers, ASA Firewalls, SAN Storage

  • Tools: ServiceNow, Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence

  • Networking: VPNs, routing, and hybrid interconnections between providers

Requirements

Must have:

  • Proven experience as a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer or AWS Systems Engineer.

  • Solid knowledge of AWS core services, networking, and hybrid architectures.

  • Hands-on technical skills and willingness to work directly in production when needed.

  • Strong documentation and communication abilities.

  • Fluent English (written and spoken).

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Azure and/or Rackspace environments.

  • Background in infrastructure migrations or post-acquisition integrations.

  • Familiarity with DevOps tools and automation frameworks (Terraform, CloudFormation, CI/CD).

Soft Skills

  • Independent, proactive, and adaptable.

  • Capable of bringing structure to complex or unclear environments.

  • Confident communicator who can challenge external vendors professionally.
