ICFO is offering a postdoctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment.

During the last years, strontium is emerging as an atom of choice for quantum simulation. Due to the presence of two valence electrons, it has a rich electronic structure with two sets of optical transitions. This enables efficient cooling using a narrow-linewidth transition and simplifies fluorescence imaging using a short-wavelength and broad-linewidth transition. Moreover, the existence of a fermionic isotope with a nuclear spin of 9/2, of magical wavelengths, and of an optical clock transition, provide novel assets to expand the toolbox of quantum simulation to more complex models.

This project was funded by MCIN with funding from European Union NextGenerationEU (PRTR-C17.I1) and by Generalitat de Catalunya.

Salaries for ICFO Postdoctoral positions are assigned by the Selection Committee, based on experience and seniority of the applicant, as well as the assigned tasks and responsibilities within the group. Standard salaries range from a lower level aligned with national Ramon-y-Cajal fellowships to higher levels aligned with Marie Skłodowska-Curie individual fellowships.

The contract is offered for a period of 1 year.
