Civil Engineer

As a **Civil Engineer** for **Dow**, you will provide specialized technical support and solutions for project teams, operations and maintenance. The Hardware Disciplines within Engineering and Maintenance are comprised of the following disciplines: Buildings, Civil, Electrical, Instrument, Materials, Mechanical, Process Containment Equipment and Piping. Hardware Disciplines support both projects and technical support teams as a technical expert recognized as a “go to” person within their site/region for their area of expertise, or as discipline lead on projects. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience and works independently, receiving mínimal guidance.

**Responsibilities / Duties**:
In the technical expert capacity:

- Leads efforts in defining and implementing technology strategy and held accountable for strategy implementation.
- Identifies and develops both technology and work process enhancements which deliver value.
- Supports the implementation of discipline technology strategy and provide input/feedback on the strategy within their area of expertise.
- Serves as site or regional technology focal point, providing timely technical reviews and input to complex designs and/or variances from MET both on projects and in support of maintenance/operations.

**In the project lead capacity**:

- Function as a Senior Civil Engineer/Lead on medium to large projects up to $10 million Total Installed Cost (TIC). The projects will be located in plants in Tarragona and Southern Europe.
- Has accountability for project results and for the implementation of and adherence to all relevant work processes and best practices.
- Drives front end loading to ensure clear scope definition along with establishing staffing plans and schedules to enable adequate control during execution.
- Develops staffing plans, directs activities within their discipline and coordinates activities with other disciplines. For projects which utilize engineering firms, they work with their counterpart at the EPC to do so.
- Leads the completion of deliverables provided to estimating and reviews output of the estimate to ensure accurate reflection of scope.
- Ensures their deliverables meet the needs of the project: function as intended, on time and within budget.
- Leads technical contract package development and supports implementation.
- Drives value engineering and economic designs to ensure the best value is delivered to the business
- Uses and enforces project change management program.
- Design and specify civil materials for purchase for projects up to $10 million TIC. Typical requirements include (but are not limited to):

- Site development/layout
- Drainage and roadway layout
- Deep and shallow foundation design and layout (e.g. pile and mat foundations)
- Structural steel analysis and design
- Structural concrete analysis and design
- Ensures safety in design.

**Required Qualifications**:

- A minimum of a master's degree in civil engineering or industrial engineering with civil/structural specialization.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (i.e. engineering, manufacturing or related).
- English language written and oral communication skills.
