Job Description
**Role Purpose**
The primary purpose of the Junior Database Administrator role is to ensure that both in-house and hosted database servers are being operated as per the standards and processes that we expect. The job will also entail assisting development and hosting teams to perform their duties by executing requests and tasks on the databases.
**Key Activities and Responsibilities**
- Adhere to standards and processes for all internal and AWS hosted database servers.
- Helping to maintain compliance within the SQL estate.
- Job management.
- Database Monitoring.
- Housekeeping and Maintenance management.
- Patch management (SQL Server patching for non-RDS instances).
- Maintaining build standards for new implementations.
- Deploying standards across the entire estate.
- Help to maintain configurations.
- Support software engineers and hosting engineers on problem identification and resolution.
- Adherence to development and deployment standards.
- Assisting other teams with SQL related problems/queries.
- Develop skills and experience in order to progress to a senior DBA.
Qualifications
**Knowledge and Experience**
**Essential**:
- Able to communicate effectively with both customers (technical and non-technical) and internal stakeholders.
- Strong organisational, time management and prioritisation skills with proven track record.
- Able to understand process and rationale for each process
- Affinity for operating and working to agreed processes, while at the same time identifying and alerting to leaders when the process is not working for the business.
- Confidence to seek support of peers and management as required.
- Good grasp of Microsoft Office.
- Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
- Team player
- Great interpersonal and communication skills.
**Qualifications**:
- A formal tertiary qualification, preferably in computer science, business information systems or similar.
- Any formal SQL training qualifications.
**Experience**:
- Acquired experience (1+ years) working with MS SQL Database servers desirable.
- Experience of working within ITIL framework.
- Experience with working with a support ticketing system for incident and change management.
- Experience with AWS IaaS and PaaS.
- Experience with Azure DevOps.
- Experience and Knowledge of SQL and relational database software development.
**You will be working very closely with the teams in the US and other international locations, therefore you MUST be proficient in conversational and written English.**
