**SUMMARY**

An R&D Engineer for ANSYS, Inc conducts engineering studies to support the development of our engineering software products. The R&D Engineer will beresponsible for incorporating advanced features in our Mechanical flagship product. These advanced engineering features, in the areas of fracture mechanics, linear dynamics, non-linear mesh adaptivity, contact, coupled field analysis, etc., are exposed in the Mechanical flagship product such that users can solve most challenging real life engineering problems in an integrated, intuitive and simplistic environment.In this specific role, the R&D Engineer will research new engineering features and will be responsible for developing new Extensions in the Mechanical productbased on customer and business needs. This person will also be responsible formaintaining several existing Mechanical Extensions released on the Ansys App Store that are currently in use by our customers.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Participate in requirements planning, design reviews and code reviews
- Develop, maintain and improve object-oriented data structures, algorithms and modules in large and complex software systems
- Enhance and extend the User Interface for set-up and execution of engineering simulations
- Develop new Mechanical Extensions based on customer and business needs using Python language.
- Develop, maintain and improve Extensions published on the Ansys App Store(DesignLife Extension, Bolt Pretention Extension, Force Response Extension, etc.)
- Native implementation of the user popular Extensions in the Mechanical product based on customer/business needs
- Enhance and extend capabilities in existing extensions based on customer feedback and business needs
- Investigates possible causes of problems and resolving defectsin the production code
- Writes and maintains test scripts to maintain Mechanical Extensionsand developinteractive testing checklists
- Works in various computing environments: Windows, Linux, Virtual, Compute Clusters
- Respond to daily code changes from other development teams to ensure extensions continue to work each commercial release, defect fixes.
- Defect fixes each release for all owned extensions found during testing or customer reported defects
- Works closely with other members of the product creation team and communicates with technical support specialists on product issues and address cross team dependencies
- Engages a network of expert professionals to collaborate and accomplish development objectives
- Other responsibilities assigned by management

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
- Master's degree in computer science, mechanical or aerospace or civil or structural engineering or related engineering fieldwith 2-3 years of experience
- Proficient in one or more programming or scripting languages: Python, C++, C#, Jscript, Perl. An expert level of proficiency in Python is required
- Strong knowledge of structural and computational mechanics
- 2-3 years of experience and/or academic exposure with FEA and CAE tools with knowledge of FE methods
- Able to troubleshoot by simplifying complex systems, debugging, and finding root causes and resolving issues
- A thorough and careful approach to work; close attention to details and quality; strong organizational skills
- Ability to establish good working relationships with development, testing, and support staff
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language to coordinate with global Ansys development teams

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- Ph.D. degree in mechanical or aerospace or civil or structural engineering is preferred withcoursework in the area of Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- 2-3 experience with ANSYS structural mechanics products would be a clear advantage
- Strong programming skills is highly desirable
- Additional knowledge of structural dynamics and numerical methods is desired
- Experience in using Microsoft Visual Studio and Software Configuration management tools (SVN, GIT)
- Experience with both LINUX and Windows platforms preferred
- Proven ability to collaborate in an open, multi-disciplinary, intense team environment and the passion to create high quality software
- Knowledge of Agile Development Methodologies
