About the Department of Medicine.
The Faculty of Medicine is committed to excellence in medical education, research, and healthcare contributions. It offers undergraduate training in Medicine, a master’s degree in health management, Master’s Degrees in Ophthalmology, and collaboration in the Master’s in Clinical Research. Our faculty embraces innovative teaching methods, including simulation-based learning, and transversal competencies such as communication, teamwork, and leadership, supported by faculty development

Our campus also includes related health sciences programs, such as Physiotherapy, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, and Bioengineering. These degrees are supported by advanced laboratories and a state-of-the-art simulation centre, providing students with practical, hands-on experience. Collaborations with three university hospitals further enhance research and clinical training.

About your role
You will be joining the area of Epidemiology, Public Health and Statistics. During this period, you will develop a thesis project within the Health Determinants and Outcomes Measurement and Epidemiology research line. Specifically, you will join the research line cantered on the epidemiology of tobacco use and respiratory diseases. As part of this research line, you will conduct analyses on primary or secondary data, design studies and develop statistical models in tobacco users and consumers of novel products.
In this position, you will work with a dynamic research group designing, analysing and interpreting different studies. You will participate in Epidemiologic and Clinical research projects, and will actively collaborate in research design, analyses, and interpretation. You will also teach undergraduate students in the Epidemiology and Public Health Area, developing academic content and teaching practical sessions.

What will you do
- Develop a PHD research project leading to a doctoral degree using secondary data on consumers of tobacco products and people with respiratory diseases.
- Write up you own research for improving knowledge on new trends of tobacco use and preventive actions and policies.
- Follow up ongoing projects - leading and collaborating on small local clinical and epidemiological research initiatives
- Teaching at an undergraduate level in health degree programmes in the Epidemiology and Public Health Area, developing academic content and teaching practical sessions in this area.

To bear in mind:
A) People who have met the requirements to access the doctoral programme at the time they are hired can participate in the call (according to what is set out in article 6 of Royal Decree 99/2011).

Selection process
The second stage will consist of questionnaires, a research methodology placement test and a selection interview.

We offer
- A full-time predoctoral contract (exclusive dedication) in the Department of Medicine at UIC Barcelona, renewable for 3+1 years, not extensible further, starting from the date you are hired as a member of our research staff in training.
- The gross annual amount for the contract is the same as that stipulated in article 7 of Royal Decree 103/2019.

Who you are...
- Holder of a bachelor’s degree in Health, Mathematical or Social Sciences with a strong research methodology background.
- Graduated or about to finish a University Master’s Degree in Epidemiology and Public Health, Statistics, Biostatistics or Data Science
- Good coding skills in R or Python
- Experienced in applied statistical software (STATA, SPSS, SAS)
- A highly motivated researcher
- An excellent team member with interpersonal communication skills
- Fluent in English, oral and written, minimum C1 in CEFR levels
- Previous teaching experiences will be considered an asset.
