Dow R&D/TS&D Internship student for R&D Characterization lab in Tarragona

About you and this role

The Dow Chemical Company has an opening for an R&D/TS&D Technical internship position in the R&D Characterization Group in Tarragona, Spain. This is a characterization and analytical process group under the Global R&D Characterization organization in the Plastics and Specialty Packaging and Hydrocarbons (P&SPH) business which characterizes polyethylene (PE) resins, films, additives and different type of products to support manufacturing plants, R&D projects, technical service developments, and process improvements.

The Tarragona R&D Characterization laboratory (LACAT) provides characterization and testing support to internal and external clients in the areas of chromatography, microscopy, thermal and spectroscopy.

Responsibilities
- The internship student is expected to demonstrate a high level of ownership and initiative in their project, with a primary focus on the “Characterization of additives in PE resins by liquid and gas chromatography”. The student will work on a method development to improve current methodology which provides low additive recoveries.
- Having a quantitative method for the measurement of additives is key to ensure that the resin will not degrade during subsequent processing and also that the fabricated article will show the expected level of performance.

Qualifications
- You are currently studying for a B.Sc. degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science or equivalent in degrees in applied sciences.
- You have a good working knowledge of English and Spanish.
- You have knowledge of Microsoft tools such as Excel, Power point, Word.
- Openness to learning new skills and adapting to changing technologies and methodologies in a dynamic work environment.
- You have ability to critical thinking and problem-solving.
- You can start between March-April 2025 for a period of 6-9 months. You will be remunerated.
