Sony AI are seeking a proven MLOps Engineer to join our newest team in Barcelona and work with our Gastronomy Flagship Project team.
You should be someone who has worked closely with innovation in the AI space, with experience building ML models, CD/CI, data engineering, and close partnering with research scientists to transition prototypes into quality production code. You should enjoy exploring the forefront of what is technologically possible, thrive in the face of the uncertainty and the experimental nature of working in a research environment, and find purpose in translating between novel research ideas and professional engineering standards and practices.

You will:
- Transition research prototypes to production-quality features, improving scalability, robustness, and performance along the way.
- Incorporate open-source tools, automation, and cloud resources to speed up development and deployment.
- Work with platform engineering to implement continuous integration and delivery to our ML cloud platform to limit manual testing and troubleshooting.
- Guide and mentor research scientists regarding good engineering practices, serve as torchbearer for a modern and inclusive engineering culture.
- Closely collaborate with colleagues in Spain, US, Japan, and Switzerland.
- Travel to other Sony sites and international conferences.
You will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or computer science.
- Plus: Master’s degree in engineering or computer science.
- Three years of post-degree or equivalent engineering experience in a similar role.
- Experience with building and deploying machine learning models.
- Strong plus: Experience with building and deploying data pipeline infrastructure for data storage, management, and processing (particularly for text data).
- Strong Python skills.
- Experience working with cloud services (like AWS and GCP) and with container technologies (like Kubernetes and Docker).
- Plus: Experience with automation technologies (like Ansible and Terraform).
- Strong plus: Experience working with research scientists.
- Plus: Experience with the supervision of interns and/or junior engineers.
Key attributes:
- The ability and the willingness to work with research scientists in an ambitious research project with several unknowns, developing mutual understanding and a joint culture.
- The ability to deliver on tight deadlines and adapt to evolving or changing requirements.
- The ability and the willingness to work as a member of a distributed team spanning several time zones and bringing together people from diverse cultural and personal backgrounds.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, as well as interpersonal skills including the ability to articulate to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Plus: Japanese language skills.
