General Scope:
Control engineering service organization: Provide safety system expertise oriented to control, optimization and validation, to wind turbine controller.
Description:
The safety system is a backup control system that protects the turbine and people from the most critical risk identified during the design phase of the machine. In this role, the system safety engineer will partner with globally located cross-functional teams to evaluate the safety of wind turbines during development and throughout the product life cycle of all Onshore wind turbines. The system safety engineer will be responsible for evaluating the hazards and ensures all the turbine safety related risks are reduced to the lowest level practicable.
Main tasks:
Lead turbine functional safety analyses to identify safety requirements and flow down results to the development team for implementation (typically Electrical, Hydraulic, Loads, Control, EHS and Software).
Lead safety risk assessments for new and existing units to assess the risk and identify mitigation measures.
Support the design and test teams with safety requirements interpretations to ensure timely implementation.
Manage and maintain the implementation of EN ISO 13849-1 and 2 - Safety of machinery - Safety-related parts of control systems, or an equivalent standard.
Assess the effects of functional safety requirements on turbine design load cases, turbine operability, turbine control hardware, and turbine control software and driving relevant changes into these areas.
Create safety documentation in accordance with SGRE new product development process.
Lead integration of overall functional safety across products with Turbine Safety and Monitoring Systems team to drive consistent safety concepts and uniform design
Review the system, subsystem, component level requirements and test requirements against the safety regulations and verify the traceability of the product.
Review and sign off on the test plans and test procedures to ensure the safety functions are tested adequately.
Review safety analysis performed by other safety engineers on the team.
Participate in the Operational Turbine Safety Committee to ensure the product related changes have been assessed for safety and the updates are fed back to the design team.
Provide safety engineering mentoring and training to engineers with less safety experience.
Lead root cause work on issued safety components / system in corporation with relevant teams.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in industry, preferably in system safety design
- Highly desirable:
Software safety background in accordance with IEC 61508-3 or similar standards
Experience with safety critical systems and performing safety analyses
Experience performing safety analyses such as Preliminary Hazard Analysis, Functional Hazard Analysis, Quantitative Fault Tree Analysis, and Operation and Support Hazard Analysis (Haz OP Analysis) in accordance with MIL-STD-882 or EN ISO 13849
Ability to work in cross-functional, multiple-culture environment with good teamwork spirit
High sense of responsibility with solution oriented and proactive self-critical attitude
Previous experience in Wind Turbine Control related activities.
Comprehensive knowledge of wind turbine dynamics (natural frequencies and vibration modes).
Basics in Aerodynamics and aeroelasticity.
Operation of Wind-Turbine.
Wind-Turbine functional performances.
Experience in the use of commercial tools such as Flex5, FAST, Bladed, HAWC2 or similar aerolastic codes.
