**Position Description**
- NYU Madrid is seeking a local part-time instructor to teach the course “Art Before/Beyond/Without Museums.” The course will run during the Fall and Spring semesters, beginning in Spring 2026 (January 19-May 12).**Course Description**
- “Art Before/Beyond/Without Museums” asks: where and how is art really made? Only a small fraction of what we call art ends up in the frames and cases of museums. Therefore we approach art not as a set of conventional static objects for display in museums, but as a dynamic process embedded in a wider, fluid network of sites and practices—from artists' studios and collectives to flea markets, art fairs, and auctions. Students will visit a number of these sites in Madrid, and will also participate in art making workshops (such as modeling class or making plaster molds), for which no prior art experience is required. Together these experiences allow us insight into the improvisatory and open-ended ways that art comes into and makes its mark on the world before, beyond, and without museums.
