Press and External Relations Officer

The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is seeking a Press and External Relations Officer.

The Press and External Relations Officer will join the Communication and Scientific Outreach team and will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and implementing ICIQ’s external communication strategy, ensuring a solid, consistent, and inspiring presence in the media and institutions, while strengthening the institute’s public image and reputation at local, national, and international levels.

**Responsibilities**:

- Design and draft the institute’s institutional narrative, with the aim of clearly, strategically, and inspiringly communicating its mission, vision, values, research lines, and social impact, ensuring consistency in both visuals and messaging across all external materials.
- Coordinate institutional communication and public relations (e.g., with other research centers, universities, companies, or governmental entities).
- Develop and coordinate an institutional communication plan.Prepare, support, and accompany ICIQ staff and representatives in public appearances and interactions with journalists and institutions.
- Plan and implement media actions aligned with the Management’s objectives.
- Identify communication opportunities and newsworthy topics of interest to the media.
- Establish and manage relationships with local, national, and international media, including media coverage of ICIQ events, press conference organization, and responding to journalist requests (interviews, press kits, etc.).
- Write and disseminate institutional content: press releases, feature stories, and other media materials.
- Publicize the institute’s transfer capabilities and impact. Contribute to designing specific communication actions to expand collaborations and foster transformative innovation initiatives and potential shared agendas.
- Monitor media presence and analyze its impact (press clipping).

**Requirements**:

- University degree in Audiovisual Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or related fields.
- Proven professional experience of over 5 years in similar roles: strategic and institutional communication, press management, and media relations.
- Proficiency in Catalan, Spanish, and English (spoken and written), with the ability to produce high-quality written content and adapt tone to channel and audience.
- Strong knowledge of media operations and ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists and institutional stakeholders.
- Ability to design communication strategies aligned with institutional goals and coordinate their execution.
- Familiarity with media monitoring and analysis tools, as well as content management platforms and press release distribution systems.

**Valued qualities**:

- Previous experience in institutional and/or scientific or research environments.
- Knowledge of institutional communication topics.
- Skills in audiovisual editing or the use of digital communication tools (CMS, social media, newsletters, etc.).
- Experience in training and managing communication strategy.
