Underwriting Team Manager Benelux

The EMEA Underwriting Centre is a multi-lingual Centre focused on renewals for middle market and new business & renewals for e-traded business, based in Madrid. The role holder will lead and manage a team of language specific underwriters for the sales, renewals, and servicing of a defined portfolio of accounts. The position comes with accountability of between 5 and 20 staff members. Additionally, the role holder may be the Line of Business Expert for a single line across all countries being managed within the underwriting Centre.

**Responsibilities **- Team Manager
- Provide excellent service to brokers and be a key contact for external and internal stakeholders, including the local country, for business processed in the underwriting center.
- Oversee training needs of the team are identified and addressed.
- Coach more junior team members and manage referrals, contributing to the growth of the skills and capabilities of the team.
- Oversee that team operates efficiently and capabilities are constantly improving.
- Liaise with product owners in order to ensure strategy and appetite are applied consistently and underwriters are trained accordingly.
- Support portfolio improvements including the continued enhancement of the scope of migration of offline to online platforms and usage by brokers in New Business and Renewal process.
- Oversee the day-to-day operation including regular performance appraisals with all team members.
- Hold responsibility for the underwriting and trading of accounts within own authority. Be proactively engaged and contribute to future developments in Online Products and system development.
- Proactive engagement with stakeholders in discussing the impact of criteria changes.

**Responsibilities **- Line of Business Expert
- In collaboration with the regional line of business teams lead the line within the context of the Underwriting Centre.
- Be the focal point for all escalated issues relating to the assigned line of business across all country teams.
- In conjunction with regional line leaders coordinating the development of the technical and commercial skills across the underwriting staff.
- Lead the discussion and efforts to bestow the line of business target level of authority within the Centre.
- Monitor underwriting breaches (reporting, justification, and remediation actions).
- Ensure adherence to Underwriting Guidance, Processes and Best Practices including usage of Portal / raters and other underwriting tools and drive consistency across all P&C LOBs.

**Requirements and skills**
- Business level of English is a must
- Bachelor's degree is preferable
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Outlook and Word).
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong attention to detail, adherence to deadlines, and willingness to deliver and improve the quality of our offerings.
- Good analytical skills to identify the necessary improvement opportunities in the Chubb policy and instrument life cycle, with an interest in personal and team learning. Customer-oriented aspect with good capacity for argumentation and negotiation.
