Support Network Technician

The IMDEA Software Institute is responsible for REDIMadrid, the data network for research and higher education that provides high-speed connectivity to universities and research centers within the region of Madrid.

REDIMadrid is funded by the Madrid Regional Government and managed by the IMDEA Software Institute.

In the same manner that RedIRIS manages the National Network for Universities and Research Centers, Madrid Research Network (REDIMadrid) is the data network for research and higher education that provides high-speed connectivity to universities and research centers within the Madrid region.

**Description**:
The IMDEA Software Institute is seeking a Support Network Technician to join our stable team in charge of supporting, managing, and planning new deployments in REDIMadrid and an emerging quantum communication infrastructure (MadQCI).

The tasks to be carried out will be, among others:

- Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, DDoS, WIFI and optical equipment)
- Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations.
- Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability and monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.
- Availability to carry out actions on network equipment during the off-peak hours of the institutions.
- Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness and success of changes made to the network infrastructure.
- Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
- Continuous improvement of network monitoring and management tools and associated documentation for effective support.
- Data centre support for upgrades, maintenance, installation, etc

**Requirements**:

- At least 5 years of work experience.
- Good knowledge of IP equipment (Juniper is a plus) in service provider environments and routing protocols (BGP4, PIM-SM, MP-BGP, MSDP, eVPN, L3VPN ).
- Knowledge in the design and maintenance of optical communications (DWDM, CIENA experience is a plus).
- Expertise in optical fiber networks within an operator environment, including deployment and fiber characterization.
- Knowledge of SNMP, telemetry and NetFlow.
- Knowledge in network monitoring tools (Grafana, Zabbix, optical tools).

The following are **desirable qualifications**:

- Knowledge of Linux/Unix environments, scripting languages, automating tools, data interchange formats and familiarity with Docker / Kubernetes and Virtual Machines administration (KVM).
- Knowledge in version control (GIT, SVN) and LaTeX typesetting.
- Capable team player.
