The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is seeking a Science Communication Officer for its Science Outreach & Education Unit.

Our mission is to lead, from the vantage point of molecular science, cross-strategies for solving major social and economic challenges, such as climate change and sustainable supply of energetic and raw materials, thereby contributing to the establishment of a knowledge-based economy and improving citizens’ quality of life in our influence area.

The officer will work at the Science Outreach & Communication Unit, with overall responsibility for raising public awareness of ICIQ’s research and results. His/her work will contribute to maintain ICIQ’s international reputation as a leading institution for chemistry research. The person will possess excellent multi-media communications skills, ability to understand complex information and communicate to wider audience. S/he will report to the Impact, Communications & Strategy manager and will work in close collaboration with ICIQ group leaders and researchers.

**Responsibilities**
- Dissemination, promotion and communication of ICIQ’s research and results.
- Write press releases, respond to media queries, be in charge of the production of supporting communication materials (e.g. leaflets, newsletters, infographics, annual scientific report and other informative materials), website and social media updates.
- Create scientific content about ICIQ and its research lines.
- Establish a strong network of international science journalists.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals for obtaining funds for outreach activities at ICIQ.
- Management of ICIQ’s scientific publications.
- Transmit the importance of frontier research in chemistry and project a positive company image to the public.
- Support ICIQ researchers to better communicate their research results to journalists.

**Requirements**:

- Degree in Chemistry or in journalism with experience in science communication.
- Strong writing and communication skills. Be able to write clearly and concisely about complex scientific topics for a general audience, and be able to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including scientists, policymakers, and the public.
- Advanced level of English (written and spoken).
- Proficiency in creating multimedia content and social media posts.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience in international and multicultural environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), ZOOM, MailChimp, WordPress and experience with search engine marketing tools Google Analytics, and Google AdWords.
- Team-work skills.
- Proactive and enthusiastic personality with a passion for science.

**Valued qualities**:

- A PhD in Chemistry and a Master in Science Communication.
- Knowledge of digital graphics production (Adobe Creative Cloud: Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro) will be considered an asset as well as photo and video editing.
- Flexible, adaptable and open to change.
- Autonomy, efficiency and ability to prioritize actions.
- Solid command of written and spoken Spanish and Catalan.
