Engineering Design Manager

The Engineering Design Manager, reports to the SVP of Development and Construction, and is responsible for design decisions related to a portfolio of datacenter projects which can include: new construction, phased expansion, retrofits and upgrades, acquisition conversions, mechanical equipment selections, and the development of design standards, processes and procedures. This role will develop long-term business strategies aligned with key Prime stakeholders to manage the relationship and output of key design partners and equipment suppliers for their assigned projects.

**Responsibilities**:

- Leads and manages innovation & development, master planning/concept design, standards and technical review.
- Leads regional design team partners to adopt and accommodate standards and best practices for design.
- Collaborates with construction and procurement teams to effectively procure, install, and commission design solutions.
- Collaborates with operations teams to ensure design standards and best practices with their requirements.
- Support Site Operations to troubleshoot /tune existing systems.
- Develops a roadmap for innovation, investigation of new products and services, and how they will be assimilated into standards.
- Develops PDC’s designs and core design philosophies such as reliability, safety, sustainability, and cost-efficiency with internal and external customers and suppliers.
- Provides master planning/concept designs as part of PDC’s investment planning, review, and approval process.
- Oversees detailed technical review process with regional design leads to assure that project designs meet the design standards and business case requirements.
- Opines on proposed deviations to the standards or the requirements.
- Collaborates closely cross-functionally - Construction, Procurement, Operations, Sales, Product, Marketing, Corporate Development, etc - to represent and develop all data center design requirements.
- Work closely with Construction, Procurement, and Operations to find a balance between cost effective solutions & operational sustainability.
- Meets with customers to understand and incorporate requirements.
- Lead mechanical design efforts for deployment of new data centers, ensuring corporate standards and customer requirements are met.
- Interface and lead mechanical design consultants and contractors on a per-project basis.
- Coordinate review process of engineering studies of all types. xvii. Visit job sites for field investigations and coordination meetings.
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for technical reviews including engineering studies/analyses.
- Lead all aspects of the review process of engineering studies.
- Provide oversight and review of project level design plans, equipment, and system submittals. xxi. Management of internal and external design teams and design consultants.
- Coordinate heavily with internal teams across all areas to ensure products delivered into operation are streamlined and optimized to meet the needs of the business across all functions.
- Assist in development and maintenance of sustainability benchmarking and innovation to incorporate sustainable technology in a cost-effective manner. xxiv. Lead project design team meetings and ensure product constructed meets engineering standards and specifications.
- Utilize engineering analysis programs and professional judgment to analyse the following:

- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies
- Psychrometric chart evaluation
- ASHRAE extreme annual design day temperatures and relative impact to supply air temperatures xxix. Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) calculations.
- Participation in FWT of critical equipment.
- Review consultants' engineering calculations, run independent engineering and cost analysis.
- Research new designs, materials, and construction methods for data center HVAC equipment and related components.
- Travel to data center sites for engineering studies, mechanical systems audits, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required.
- Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies.
