**Your Role**

As an **Early Career Ocean Professional -**Science Programme Intern**, you will gain hands-on training in our renowned science programme, contribute to communications and outreach efforts, and support research and field-based activities during race stopovers. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to work closely with the Ocean Science Advisor on a variety of scientific, technical, and organisational tasks related to oceanographic data collection, analysis and communication. This role offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with our team and partners in ocean science, sustainability, and innovation, while gaining practical experience in applied marine science within the context of a high-profile sailing event and global environmental initiative.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Research & Scientific Support**
- Conduct desk-based research on The Ocean Race’s science programme and related ocean topics.
- Contribute to a number of our science initiatives including our biodiversity programme, science institute research.

**Equipment & Technical Training**
- Assist in the coordination and documentation of oceanographic measurement systems across multiple sailing vessels.
- Support data quality control, analysis, and visualisation tasks.
- Assist with the installation and calibration of scientific instruments, alongside our technical expert.
- Learn about onboard science instrumentation and support field maintenance.

**Communications & Engagement**
- Contribute to our science communications.
- Contribute to ideas for the Science Space within Ocean Live Parks (OLP) in the Host Cities.
- Facilitate science engagement at stopovers or during science shows if skilled in science communication.

**Cross-Team Collaboration**
- Join internal meetings to contribute insights and ideas for the science programme.
- Review the science and learning programmes of participating teams.
- Explore synergies with partners and other science institutes in host cities.

**General Support & Event Contribution**
- Assist colleagues in the production and success of The Ocean Race event (hospitality, events ).
- Contribute to sustainability initiatives, reflecting The Ocean Race’s commitment to ocean conservation.

**Minimum requirements**:
**Qualifications & Skills**
- Academic background in oceanography, marine biology, environmental science, chemistry, or a related field (Bachelor’s or Master’s level)
- Strong interest in applied ocean science and environmental issues
- Strong communication skills, ideally with experience in science communication.
- Research skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with data analysis (e.g. Excel, Python, or MATLAB) is a plus.
- Social media and content creation abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently in an international setting.
- Flexibility and adaptability to live event settings.
- Fluent English (spoken and written).
- Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.
- Adaptability in fast-paced environments.

**Additional Considerations**
- Preference lives in or be able to relocate to Alicante, Spain.
- EU national or ability to obtain necessary EU working permits.
