Role Summary
The Medical Director, Europe is an opportunity for a proven clinical leader who can set and execute on the clinical delivery strategy for a global team of nurses, physicians, and other non-clinical staff. The role is responsible for driving and implementing a forward-thinking clinical affordability strategy to ensure the market segment and Cigna continues to provide industry leading health services and solutions across the globe.

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer for International Markets, this role partners closely with Sales and Client Management, Underwriting, Medical Economics, Service Operations and other areas to develop and implement market strategies designed to support medical cost improvement, product enhancements, improvement in Provider, and Member satisfaction results, and profitable growth in the region.

This role is the primary clinical commercial face of Cigna Europe interacting with clients and external matrix partners as the Clinical SME to promote and positively influence the business health, well-being and quality differentiation story (Affordability, Simplicity, Predictability)

This role is the senior resource for Clinical for Europe and drives innovation and strategic program development as needed for the region.

**Key responsibilities & accountabilities**:
Provides clinical expertise and thought leadership in developing and executing Europe’s clinical and affordability strategy and roadmap

Accountable for analyzing affordability outcomes, to recognize and prioritize opportunities for improvement, and to inform actions based on clinical and business trends

Accountable for FY cost containment savings targets

Give clinical evidence-based advice on medical claims, taking into account internationally accepted protocols and local and/or regional customs and regulations.

Actively monitor new and emerging clinical trends, practices, and solutions and assess their applicability to key business initiatives and business strategies

Utilizes analytical skills to compile and present summaries of health and wellness management activities in a professional format to the appropriate internal areas or external clients. Builds out new program delivery as needed

Ensure Health Cloud is maximized to create integration and identification, and further expansion

Ensure attainment of quality, production, timeliness, cost containment goals, and excellent customer satisfaction for both internal and external customers and clients.

Support and monitor the pre authorization, case management, disease management and other clinical and wellness services and assure quality of performance against quality accepted standards to promote optimal service delivery and ensure accurate statistical data and reports.

Competence and savviness in Commercial and Sales presentation. Interacting with the external marketplace with the sales and client management team. Attends and actively participates in client meetings, finalist meetings and is a lead presenter and SME at key client forums and public conferences

Drive reporting improvements with Data and Analytics for Commercial team use and be proficient in explaining and consulting

People Leadership & Management

Lead a clinical team that provides medical management services to customers worldwide and support the wellness operation. ( locations include staff in Europe, UK, ME, and Asia to cover global population needs).

Provides guidance and acts as a mentor and coach for the nurses, doctors and other non-clinical staff.

**Requirements**:
Medical Doctor Degree with international healthcare experience and MBA preferred

10+ years of clinical experience in a payer setting required with a background in leading large global teams

Combination of clinical expertise and business acumen, with experience in driving affordability through clinical outcomes

Experience in utilization/case management, cost containment services, claim data analytics managed care, insurance coverage, financial management and disease management programs and tools

Strategic thinker, who can establish and translate business objectives into an actionable solution approach, execution and results

Experience working across organizational boundaries, particularly forming strong partnerships across multiple business units

Embrace and lead change effectively and cultivate an environment of customer centricity, innovation and continuous improvement.
