**Context And Mission**
- The BSC participates in the Stratum project that explores multimodal data processing through Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms to support complex surgeries in many anatomies, with brain tumor surgery being one of the most complex cases. Our mission is to analyze and characterize the performance of large-scale data analysis pipelines to propose novel algorithms and hardware accelerators.
Our research group seeks a highly motivated postdoc interested in applied AI and bioinformatics algorithms and data structures. Come join our group to address the challenge of providing accurate and efficient co-designed software-hardware solutions that can scale with increasingly large and complex sequencing datasets for large-scale bioinformatics analysis. In this exciting role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic team of researchers and engineers, contributing to leading scientific research.

**Key Duties**
- Research on acceleration of bioinformatics algorithms and AI-based data analysis pipelines using software and hardware optimization techniques.
- Investigate novel healthcare/bioinformatics algorithms and data structures.
- Write scientific papers and actively engage in ongoing research lines and activities.
- Coordinate and attend project meetings, supervise students, and manage research teams and project deliverables.

**Requirements**:

- Education
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (or a related area).
- Publications in recognized computer science or AI conferences or journals are a plus but not essential.
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Strong background in algorithms, computer architecture, and performance analysis.
- Expertise in AI and bioinformatics algorithms and data structures, dataflow execution, and sparse computation.
- Expertise in C/C++ programming, performance engineering, and low-level optimizations.
- Expertise in Python, Bash, and basic Linux.
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Experience with CUDA or FPGA programming is a plus but not essential.
- Experience with R and Matlab is a plus but not essential.
- Experience with Python, R, and Matlab is a plus but not essential.
- Competences
- Problem-solving, highly proactive, and result-oriented work attitude.
- Strong teamwork skills and capability to work with international partners.
- Strong communication skills, including proficiency in both written and verbal English.
- Autonomy in researching and exploring new problems and lines of inquiry.

**Conditions**
- The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department
- We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
- Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
- Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
