Worldreader is seeking a dynamic communications professional with a background in persuasive writing and editing to join our Global Advancement Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work globally and cross-functionally with professionals dedicated to bringing reading to children around the world. You will play an essential role in communicating with Worldreader’s key external audiences to drive revenue and achieve impact across Worldreader’s global programming. You will work creatively, strategically, and collaboratively to develop an array of communications in support of this effort including but not limited to one-pagers, campaign materials, thought leadership blogs, reports, pitches, presentations, and event communications.
**Responsibilities**
The Content Writer is a key member of the greater geographically dispersed Advancement Team (comprising the Development and Marketing & Communications departments). The position reports to the Senior Director of Global Marketing & Communications, based in San Francisco, CA and collaborates with other Advancement Team members globally.
The Content Writer will be responsible for the following:
Planning and Project Management
- Assist in creating standardized messaging for key audiences and templated materials.
- Organize and maintain centralized resources for external communications.
- Manage writing projects from conception and research to drafting, editing and delivery, organizing internal resources as needed, ensuring consistent tone, voice, perspective and alignment with brand guidelines and standards.
Writing and Editing
- Write a wide range of external communications including but not limited to cases for support, concept notes, campaign materials, reports, pitches, presentations, web pages and event communications.
- Write blog posts and articles in collaboration with the senior brand content manager as needed.
- Maintain Worldreader’s profile across various external philanthropic and international development websites (e.g., Charity Navigator, Guide Star, etc.) and research opportunities for further visibility in these sectors.
- Review and edit the writing of others across the organization as needed.
- Complete additional communications tasks and responsibilities as needed.
**Required Skills/Abilities**
- Exceptional writing and proofreading skills. Ability to write persuasively for technical audiences in the international development sector and inspirationally for donors and supporters. Ability to balance storytelling with commentary as needed.
- Ability to work with a broad range of people across multiple countries and time zones.
- Previous experience in a start-up setting or proven ability to effectively operate in a start-up and/or fast-paced culture.
- Strong organizational skills including multi-tasking, prioritizing, planning, and effective time management.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to collaborate across a variety of work styles.
- Creative thinker, independent worker, and self-starter.
- High level of digital fluency is required. Experience with G-Suite, Hubspot, Monday, Canva, and Salesforce is a plus.
- Must be a native-writer of English. Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
- Excellent understanding of English style and usage rules. Experience with AP or Chicago style is a plus.
- Strong commitment to Worldreader's mission and values.
**Education and Experience**
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in journalism, English, communications or similar preferred.
- 5+ years of experience working in communications or writing roles.
- Experience working in the education sector, nonprofit sector or international development sector preferred.Location
