This work will contribute to the European Commission Horizon Europe project EXPECT, an international project to develop integrated prediction and attribution of regional climate changes including extremes. **Key Duties** - Evaluate predictability and feature importance in climate models compared to observational data - Advance analogue-based initialisation techniques that integrate multiple variables including Earth Observations data - Integrate satellite-based data in the AI-based driver detection and prediction methods **Requirements**: - Education - Having a degree in climate Science, Meteorology, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or a related discipline - Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience - Excellent coding skills in Python and/or R - Experience with UNIX/LINUX environments and scripting languages (bash,...) - Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience - Experience of version control in a distributed team, including SVN or Git will be valued - Previous experience in a scientific area related to the research position, in particular climate analysis or modeling will be valued - Fluency in English - Competences - Good written and verbal communication skills - Ability to take initiatives prioritize tasks and work under set deadlines **Conditions** - The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department - We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures - Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration - Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement - Starting date: 01 August 2025 **Applications procedure and process** - A full CV in English including contact details - A cover/motivation letter with a statement of interest in English, clearly specifying for which specific area and topics the applicant wishes to be considered.
