Assistant Breeder

Reporting to:
(Senior) Breeder / Crop Breeding Manager

Purpose:
Provide timely and accurate support in all steps of the breeding process to make the right (selection) decisions.

Geographical Scope:
One country / multiple countries

Key Accountabilities:
1. Secure implementation and oversee execution of routine processes, i.e. sowing, planting, pollinating harvesting, and disease testing.
2. Ensure proper execution of crossing programs, functionally leading Crop Workers, and monitoring process whilst ensuring that the instructions of the (Assistant) Breeder are followed.
3. Make independent observation, taking routine phenotypic data from Breeding material and first screenings.
4. Assist with the selection of crops based on clear instructions and in alignment with the (Senior) Breeder.
5. Recording and processing of observations on plants in designated electronic systems.
6. Correct administration when sending/receiving plants, ensuring traceability.
7. Organization of periodic routine disease tests and preparation of seed lots in cooperation with Breeders and Routine Disease Testing team, including track and trace.

Secondary vocational level (MBO)

Minimum Years of Relevant Work Experience:
3 to 5 years

Required Certifications, Knowledge and Skills:

- Proficient in the use of breeding administration software
- Proficienct in the use of Excel and Outlook
- Proficient in the English and local language, both written and verbal

Working Conditions:

- Occasionally working under pressure
- Working in conditioned climate/high temperatures
- Occassional international and/or domestic business travel
