The **Technical Director **designs and develops innovative tools to overcome specific challenges related to the department’s developments for our next animated feature film. This effort seeks to implement solutions that off-the-shelf software would not provide while maximizing productivity and meeting the high-quality standard set by the company. The scope of the developments may be from a simple python script to a larger development involving complex algorithms.
**Responsibilities**:
- Develops and maintains the required tools following the requirements supplied by the production departments and following the Production Engineering Team guides.
- Partners with Artists and other Engineers to iterate, debug, document, and refine tools and processes for feature film production.
- Works on short-term needs, originated by shot challenges.
- Acts as first support line to solve day-to-day problems artists may encounter.
- Keeps up on current artistic methodologies and on technology trends and tools that best suit the production and the company in the development of a stronger creative and technical environment.
- Works together with the team providing them with support, guidance and instruction in areas that contribute towards their artistic and professional growth.
- Follows the Supervisor’s and Lead's guidance.
**Requirements**:
- 5+ years in the graphics development industry (animation, videogames, research ).
- Expert in C++.
- Good understanding of vector and matrix math.
- Experience with Arnold and USD, particularly with the development of plugins for them.
- Proficient in Python.
- Houdini 3D software knowledge desirable.
- Experience working with a source version control system (git desirable).
- Good understanding of production pipelines.
- Experience with agile development and scrum methodology.
- High English level desirable.
- Spanish desirable.
