Research Assistant

The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. ISGlobal is accredited with the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Science Ministry.

**WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR**:
As a WHO Collaborating Center for malaria prevention, control and elimination, ISGlobal has been reached out to perform a literature review of malaria elimination in the WHO European Region.
This role is part-time and ideally suited for someone currently completing postgraduate studies or seeking complementary academic or research experience.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Conduct a comprehensive literature review (peer-reviewed and grey literature) on malaria and malaria elimination efforts in WHO European Region.
- Identify and compile relevant data, policy documents, and historical information.
- Analyse and summarise findings into a report (40-50 pages).
- Liaise with the supervisor to define search strategies and priorities.
- Provide regular updates to WHO and contribute to discussions on findings and next steps.

**SPECIFIC DUTIES**:

- Develop an outline of the content for the literature review
- Review and screen articles for relevance
- Extract key information from selected publications.
- Prepare a final report summarising the current state of knowledge on malaria elimination in WHO European Region.
- Assist in the preparation of any academic outputs or presentations based on findings, if required.

**SKILLS**:

- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to synthesise complex information clearly.
- Written fluency in English (Spanish or other European languages is a plus).
- Knowledge of reference management tools (e.g., Zotero, EndNote, Mendeley).
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.

**TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Degree in public health, biomedical sciences, epidemiology, or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate training (MSc/MPH or similar) is desirable.
- Previous experience conducting literature reviews or supporting research projects.

**SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS**:

- Proven ability to conduct literature searches using academic databases (e.g., PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science) and grey literature sources
- Familiarity with malaria, global health policy, or disease elimination strategies is a strong asset.
- Excellent reading comprehension and writing skills in English.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet agreed timelines.

- Proficiency in English

The selection process is designed in two phases:
1- Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation. To assess the person's skills and CV.
2 - Meeting with HR with the finalist(s) to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.

If needed any technical test could be passed. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.
