**Role Summary**:
The position will report directly to VP, Assistant General Counsel based in the USA and will have extensive contact with senior leaders in the EMA region as well as with a variety of business stakeholders across the Company. A large part of this role will involve the project management of cases - this will entail controlling external legal spend, and ensuring that local experts are fully briefed and utilised. The new addition will need to maintain strict confidence and discretion, and a friendly and professional demeanor in all aspects of work duties. Based in Madrid, Spain or other Flowserve office including Germany, Netherlands and the United Kingdom (with the option of remote working with travel), the Employment Counsel will be responsible for all employment law matters across the Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMA) region
**Preferred Experience / Skills**:
Qualified European lawyer, with specific specialism in employment law.
Prior experience with culture and operations in Europe. Experience in Middle East & Africa advantageous.
Strong knowledge of European employment matters, including: hiring, benefits, employee relations, discipline, terminations, internal investigations, wage and hour, leave and accommodation issues, independent contractors and more. Gained working in-house.
Knowledge of global employment matters preferable, but not mandatory
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written), including ability to communicate complex information in a concise, accessible format
- Strong interpersonal skills, including a friendly and professional demeanor, collaborative partnership approach and an ability to work effectively, whether independently or in multinational, cross-cultural team environments with people of all levels within the organization
- Highly organised self-starter, proficient at multi-tasking and managing multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
- Practical, business oriented approach to problem-solving and be able to effectively counsel internal clients by providing them with clear, concise and practical advice, and creative solutions where necessary, on established timelines to meet their business needs.

- Fluent in English is a must, additional language skills, particularly Spanish, German or Dutch will be considered a distinct advantage

Provide legal support to the company’s European, Middle Eastern, and African locations by performing a broad range of attorney functions relating to employment law, labour relations, employee benefits, conflict management and avoidance, investigations, litigation and policies and procedures, as well as data privacy.
Provide strategic legal counsel on a wide array of European employment matters, including employee relations, recruiting, hiring, discipline, termination, accommodation, redundancies, realignment activity, leaves of absence, litigation and conflict management / avoidance, data privacy, government and internal investigations, wage and hour matters, collective bargaining and labour matters, policies, procedures and templates, matter management and special projects. You will also provide similar legal support for Middle Eastern and African matters.
Prepare, draft, investigate and research presentations, documents, agreements, memos, summaries, policies and procedures, templates, incentive or benefits plans, employment agreements, contracts, responses to charges of discrimination, and other documents, requiring knowledge of legal terminology and document formats.
Monitor legal and regulatory requirements and developments in data protection legislation to ensure compliance. You will represent the legal department on the company’s Data Privacy Council and you will be responsible for drafting and reviewing all standard contractual clauses related to data processing. You will also be a strategic partner in the company’s GDPR compliance efforts.
