Chief Mining Engineer

**Main Purpose**:Trafigura Mining Group (TMG) manages Trafigura operational mining assets, conducts technical due diligences and provides technical support to internal and external stakeholders. The group is geographically located in several offices in Europe, North America, South America and Asia. TMG is now looking for a corporate Chief Mining Engineer to join its team. The Chief Mining Engineer will be responsible for ensuring best engineering practices across the operations.
**Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities**:
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Ensure best standards are applied on operating mines
- Actively support safety improvements in the fields related to engineering
- Ensure adequate mine planning and operational standards, and guidelines are developed, updated and effectively communicated to the mines
- Conduct periodic audits of each operation vs standards, and advise on corrective actions
- Be up to date on technology developments in global market.
- Actively share best practices between mines
- Help coordinate improvement project efforts
- Conduct scoping studies and tests
- Propose and, if needed, support new improvement project to site
- Follow up on installation of these efforts on a regular basis, if needed, coordinate installation of these initiatives
- Coordinate the company-wide _Mine Planning and Operations _functional committee
- Ensure technical reviews of capex and other proposals from the mines
- Ensure that standards are adhered to
- Engineering studies of correct standard/quality
- Ensure design criteria
- Involved in equipment selection/sizing
- Auditing/signing off LoM plans and budgets
- Knowledge of mineral reserve reporting requirements under JORC or CIM guidelines
- Ensure that budgets and LoM plans are prepared in a structured, accurate and timely manner to continuously improve the competitiveness of the mines
- Assumptions are clear and with consequent rationale
- Physicals according to first principles
- Operating cost
- Capital cost (short and long term)
- Closure costs
- Support technical team with due diligences as needed
- Support projects team as needed
- Facilitate transfer of knowledge and training of other employees within TMG mines
**EXPERIENCE**
- University degree in mining or mining-related discipline
- Minimum 15 years operational (site based) experience in metallic mining, from multiple mines, and underground and open pit mining methods
- Experience in mine ventilation and/or dewatering projects
- Experience with mining contractors, or contract management
- Solid experience from leading teams
- Must be well versed on planning tools such as Deswik, Whittle, Surpac
- Must be fluent in English, Spanish is a big plus
**SKILLS**
- Leadership ability actively demonstrated, leading by example
- Ability to develop and manage relationships based on multidisciplinary collaboration and teamwork
- Very good ability to communicate orally and in writing, in English and preferably in Spanish
- Knowledge and concern for the latest technological developments in the industry
