Late Data Science and Real World Evidence (LASER) is a group of Epidemiologists, Data Scientists and AI leaders that drive population level and scientific insights to AZ’s oncology portfolio. These ultimately help support the formation of new clinical studies, helps define prognostic and predictive biomarkers and highly optimise the way we run clinical studies. To remain at the leading edge of AI and Data Science LASER must continually develop the capabilities used to analyses a wide range of data modalities and does this in partnership with other groups in AZ and external partners. The Scientific Portfolio Manager will support the team and data science teams within LASER to provide strategic and operational portfolio management of these capability development projects.

**What you will do**:
**Capability Development Projects**
- Provides portfolio management for LASER scientific capability development projects
- Coaches capability development project teams to improve all aspects of execution of projects
- May lead all aspects of a capability development project
- Understands Oncology portfolio priorities and helps to identify critical areas requiring new capability development
- Collaborates with other functions (EDS, ODSP, R&D IT, DS&AI) to identify new capability needs and deliver these via the capability roadmap process
- Monitors new capability deployment, uptake, support, and lifecycle management
- Evaluates the external landscape for transformative technological developments and assesses opportunities for internal project implementation

**Drug Project Portfolio Support**
- Manages work tracking system within LASER and uses system data to generate productivity measures
- Supports Epidemiologists, Data Scientists and AI teams in the use of the work tracking system
- Ensure adherence to SOPs within teams and deliver consistency in the delivery of work
- Drives communication and recognition of LASER scientific achievements internally and externally, including social media and peer reviewed publication.
- Engages with stakeholders across ORD to identify opportunities for and requirements of cross portfolio analyses
- Ensures key findings/messages from cross portfolio analyses are clearly articulated and integrated into institutional knowledge

Experience and Essential Requirements:

- Practical knowledge of RWE and Clinical Data Science with technical, scientific or medical expertise in one or more functional areas involved in pharmaceutical/biologic product development
- Experience in data science techniques for biological/clinical data e.g. genomics
- Project management of R&D programmes, with the ability to create, coordinate, and maintain an integrated product plan and to control or respond to changes in strategy and scope
- BSc/BA in a biological science or other scientific degree with a minimum of 5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience (or the equivalent) in project management or PhD with experience in drug development
- Strong leadership skills coupled with a strategic mindset and a sharp focus on project delivery
- Highly developed organisational, problem solving and risk management skills
- Well-developed communication, collaborative working and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to influence strategically and manage stakeholders effectively
- Experience in business and operations within a pharmaceutical or clinical environment
