Job Description Summary
The Legal Manager, Legal Affairs leads Alira Health’s global legal team, focused on four key areas: Contracts with a specific focus on clinical trials contracts notably CRO contracts, Data Privacy notably GDPR compliance and related impact on the healthcare sector ), and General Corporate Matters. The Legal Manager will be a business partner to the other practice areas of the company, helping them solve legal and business problems and create new opportunities while addressing issues of compliance and risk management. This is a role in our fast-growing healthcare technology and advisory company; we are looking for an experienced attorney with broad experience in general corporate matters and well-informed on data privacy and compliance.
**Job Description**:
Contracts
- Draft, analyze, manage, and finalize a wide range of contracts requiring knowledge in the healthcare sector, including, but not limited to, NDA’s, MSA’s, Clinical Trial Agreements, SaaS Agreements, Service Level Agreements, Partner Agreements, Independent Contractor Agreements and Vendor Agreements
- Provide guidance on acceptable contract language; Support the SVP Legal and compliance in developing, maintaining, revising and implementing standard templates, forms, and processes for improvement and scalability purposes.
- Participate in setting policy and procedure on contract management.
Data Privacy & Compliance
- Provide legal advice on any data privacy issues notably related to GDPR compliance while working closely with the DPO and manage data privacy, security, and other service and product-related issues from a legal perspective.
- Address compliance and regulatory matters. Supports and collaborates with other departments (Finance, QA, HR) to manage compliance issues for investigation, assessment, and resolution in accordance with the SVP Legal Affairs.
- Advise business teams on applicable laws and regulations, including GDPR and other major data privacy regulations.
- Collaborate with QA team to ensure policy compliance with data privacy regulations in relevant jurisdictions, calling in outside counsel or assistance as required.
Qualifications:
- Legal degree and at least with 5 years of experience in the healthcare and/or start-up industry
- Experience within a dynamic, complex global business environment
- Experience on clinical trial agreement
- Expertise in data privacy
- Broad knowledge of law (corporate law, commercial law, labor law)
- Significant experience in drafting, reviewing, negotiating commercial agreements
- Strong analytical ability together with reliably sound business judgment and a balanced approach to risk mitigation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to clearly and explain complex issues to a non-legal audience.
- Flexibility - able to balance process and decision-making in a large organization with an entrepreneurial culture and lean operating environment.
- Fluent in English
- Additional language, French/Spanish, is a plus.
