The Underwriter will be responsible for developing and expanding new business opportunities through production & marketing calls with brokers and clients, marketing to distribution channels, prequalifying new business, and utilizing underwriting acumen to select sound opportunities within company guidelines to maintain profitability.We are seeking an individual preferably with a background in underwriting General Property business, who strives for excellence in every area from analyzing risks to delivering customer and broker service.You should be comfortable working closely with the Claims team and Risk Control engineers from across the broader team. Good data and file management skills are required.In addition, necessary character, relationship building and negotiating skills to help lead and further build a profitable book of business are of the utmost importance.The successful candidate will be focused on a positive customer experience, while maintaining sound underwriting discipline.This position is a great fit for an Underwriter looking to expand their underwriting knowledge with an experienced and well-regarded unit within a top global insurance company.Essential Job Functions:Develop and build a profitable book of General Property business with a stronger focus on medium to high severity occupancy typesEstablish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationshipsUnderwrite assigned accounts while ensuring appropriate analysis and documentationAbility to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity and profitabilityCollaborate to develop and strengthen the Spanish branch operations beyond the regular underwriting activitiesQualifications, Skills and Experience:Underwriting experience in the General Property line of business preferredExperience and/or ability to develop strong broker and customer relationships quicklyCapability of understanding policy forms, including broker manuscriptsStrong collaboration and team building skillsStrong communication skills including negotiation, communications, and presentation experienceAnalytical mindset: approaching problems in a logical, structured, and data-driven manner; being curious, asking questions, and seeking out the best data and analytical tools.Engineering or equivalent technical education, and/or strong insurance qualifications are an asset in this roleBHSI Offers:A competitive package and exciting growth opportunities for career-oriented teammatesA dynamic, action oriented, and thoughtful environment centered on always doing the right thing for our customers, teammates and our other stakeholdersA purposely non-bureaucratic organization that embraces simplicity over complexity and emphasizes individual excellence in a team frameworkTo apply, please submit your CV with a cover letter outlining why this would be the perfect role for you to hr.europe@bhspecialty.comNOTE: Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
