Rust Systems Software Engineer (Postgres) at Neon Neon is an open‑source company on a mission to revolutionize the database world by building a cloud‑native PostgreSQL service for developers. The Role: We are seeking a skilled Rust Engineer to join our team and help ensure PostgreSQL runs seamlessly on the Neon cloud platform. You will contribute to critical parts of the system, including: The interface between PostgreSQL and our Rust‑based storage system. The integration with the Neon control plane and monitoring tools. The open‑source PostgreSQL project and its broader ecosystem. You will also: Design and implement new Postgres features. Write high‑performance, low‑level systems code in Rust. Deploy changes to a large‑scale farm of 500k+ Postgres instances. Participate in on‑call rotations and drive operational excellence. What We’re Looking For: 4+ years of production experience in software engineering, with a focus on systems programming. Experience with Rust or a strong interest in learning and working with Rust. Familiarity with PostgreSQL internals, extensions, or feature development. Experience maintaining and scaling large production systems. A passion for systems software, performance engineering, and distributed systems. A strong sense of ownership, accountability, and pride in your work. Enthusiasm for working in a fast‑paced, early‑stage startup environment. Nice‑to‑Have: Experience contributing to open‑source projects. Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and distributed systems.
