Role Description This is a part-time hybrid role for a Venture Capital Fellow based in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, with flexibility for remote work. The Fellow will conduct market and startup research to identify emerging trends and potential investment opportunities. Responsibilities include evaluating startups, assisting with due diligence, and supporting event planning and execution. Additionally, the Fellow will engage with founders, maintain strong connections in the innovation ecosystem, and produce meaningful reports or content that contribute to the overall mission of Emerging LA. It is designed to lower the barrier to entry for students and early-career candidates who want real exposure to venture capital, even without prior investing experience. Fellows work directly on live investment workstreams and support sourcing, evaluating, and preparing deals for investment decisions. Our syndicate has backed Anthropic, Cursor, SpaceX, Databricks, and Epic Games. The Emerging VC Fellowship is a selective, hands‑on program giving students real exposure to venture capital operations through two defined tracks: Operations Track Investment Track WHAT YOU'LL DO Work directly with active deals, evaluate startups, build deal flow, research markets, support investment memos, and participate in VC Chats with founders and investors. This is learning by doing, not hypothetical coursework. You’ll be mentored by Brandon Hoffman, a General Partner & Founder of Emerging. He was previously GP of Sunset Ventures, an investor & executive at Samsung, and an Internet Research Analyst at Morgan Stanley. IDEAL CANDIDATES We work hard and move fast. Fellows who are not engaged, dependable, and proactive should NOT apply. We seek candidates who are: Highly dependable with consistent follow-through Comfortable in fast‑paced, unstructured environments Genuinely curious about tech, business, and investing Growth‑oriented with strong initiative and agency Pedigree matters less than behavior. Recent fellows came fromCSUF, USC, UCLA, UCSD, Caltech, Georgetown, Harvard, and Penn. COMMITMENT 10 hours/week (flexible schedule, with few mandatory meetings) It is part‑time and designed to be manageable alongside school or full‑time work. Most work is done virtually and asynchronously at times that work best for the fellow. The following is mandatory: Team meetings on Fridays (90 minutes) Virtual Chats from VC & Founder guest speakers every other Friday (60 minutes) Regular 1:1 mentor check‑ins In‑person events & meetings Note: This is not paid employment; there is no financial compensation. The fellowship program is meant for learning and can be completed for course credit. TIMELINE The program is 14 weeks long. From Feb 9th to May 22nd, 2026. This doesn’t include the application process. January 13: Applications open to all January 23: Applications close Late January – early February: Case studies & interviews February 9: Trial period begins March 9: Fellowship begins May 22: Last day of fellowship EXPECTATIONS & STANDARDS Fellows may be removed or withdraw from a trial period due to: Missing deadlines or meetings without communication Requiring frequent direction or follow‑up to move work forward Lack of preparation and engagement They decide this isn't a good fit for them There is a change in circumstances Note: We strongly prefer fellows to be located in Southern California. This is to take advantage of in‑person community events and to attend all mandatory in‑person team meetings. Qualifications Proficiency in Market Research, Startup Evaluation, and conducting Due Diligence Strong Communication, Networking, and Relationship‑Building skills, particularly with founders and investors Event Planning and Content Creation capabilities Analytical and Problem‑Solving skills, along with attention to detail Knowledge or experience in venture capital, startup ecosystems, or entrepreneurial environments is preferred Ability to manage projects independently and adapt to hybrid work setups A genuine interest in innovation and contributing to LA’s entrepreneurial ecosystem #J-18808-Ljbffr
