Beyond each individual’s professional endeavours, at UIC Barcelona you will also form part of a young and dynamic working environment.What we’re looking forWe are looking for a lecturer for the area of Materials Science – Biomaterials with a PhD in engineering, mainly in the following fields but not limited to: materials science, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering, who will be required to teach the following areas of knowledge: biomaterials, materials engineering, advanced materials, forming technology.Key responsibilitiesTo provide high quality bachelor’s degree-level teaching in your specialist subjects.To lead the management and/or coordination of programmes and perform any other academic tasks assigned to you by the Department.We offerA full-time contract in a dynamic and international scientific environment in the Department of Bioengineering (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) at UIC Barcelona (Health Sciences Campus, Sant Cugat del Vallès).A competitive salary based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.Lab bench in a wet lab and use of the Department’s scientific equipment.Start date: March 2025 (date is negotiable).How to applyAll applications must be submitted in a single PDF document. The document must include:A cover letter stating why you are interested in the position.A comprehensive CV including contact details.A summary of your scientific impact (which includes the H-index and the number of publications in the different journal impact factor quartiles) and a publication list that includes the impact factor and quartile of each publication.At least two reference letters.Application deadlineThe application deadline is January 20th 2025.RequirementsThe candidate must have:A PhD in a discipline related to the position.Assessment criteriaThe following aspects of the candidate’s CV will be evaluated:Excellent track record of publications.Participation in funded research projects.Research experience:Materials science: biomaterial formulation and material characterisation.Biological sciences: cell seeding onto biomaterials, cell-material interaction characterisation.AQU or ANECA (or similar) accreditation, or be able to apply for it and obtain it in a short period of time.Proven record of effective teaching.Oral and written proficiency in English.Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Ability to get involved in one of the Faculty’s lines of research.Ability to supervise and guide both undergraduate and graduate students in their research projects.Selection processIn May 2018, EURAXESS awarded the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya with a Human Resources Excellence in Research Award, which ensures that candidates are selected purely on the basis of excellence criteria. The UIC Barcelona selection process involves:An independent board of experts that assesses all applications and decides who will move on to the next stage. All members of this board are from outside UIC Barcelona.A public oral defence by finalist applicants: a presentation about their career (both academic and teaching) and their research projects. Following the presentation, the examination panel will ask a series of questions to conclude the defence. The defence should last a total of 60 minutes.
